Not so happy little vegemite

Can't believe what I saw on the news tonight that they were talking about the possibility of vegemite being slugged with a fatty foods tax or being banned in Australia all together !!!

They say because it is high in salt but 99% of society that ets vegemite surely only has it spread lightly on toast or in a sandwich.

Will be devestated if this Australian icon would be banned from the shelves, as too would many other people I would say.

disgraceful

if they banned everything that 'wasn't good for you' we would all starve or dehydrate to death

Vegemite changed its name to Parwill in 1928. The rationale being that "If Marmite, then Parwill" Not surprisingly, the name never caught on and it was only sold as Parwill for a short time in QLD

The name Vegemite was reinstated in 1935.

Its amazing the amount of crap my brain chooses to remember!

I've been trialling all the Mites lately...nothing better to do I guess ;)
I love Vegemite but thought I'd give the others a go.

Firstly tried Mighty Mite by Three 3's (Australian made and owned). Really weird consistency, hard to spread and you have to keep it in the fridge which is another factor against it. Gluten free. Nice taste though but the consistency puts me off. If they fixed that I would definitely try again.

On Marmite (Sanitarium) at the moment and I love it, haven't had it since I was a kid when it was probably too strong for me. Certainly a stronger taste than VM.

Next I will try Promite (have horrible memories of that as a kid...) and Dick Smith's Aussie Mite if they still make it.

Are you anywhere near zippy cos he's been eating it ;)

We grew up with it in the UK...there was only Marmite as far as I know. I did try Vegimite when staying with a mate who married an Aussie and crossed over but it was nasty and made me retch :-& :(
