Ive got about $6000 to buy a car, what car should I buy for economy, a 4 cylinder on petrol or a 6 cylinder on lpg ?
Also should I buy privately, caryard, or car auctions.
I dont want to buy a cheap car with problems.

Sorry to tell you this my friend.
$6000 buys you someone else's problems.
Every second hand car has a problem.
Otherwise why would the owner get rid of it?
In my oppinion,
best to have a good look around,
get to know the prices, and maybe get it RAA checked before you buy.
Good Luck panther

If I was buying a new car it would definitely be a Honda or a Mazda - I love the top end range of Honda's niiiiiiiice - maybe read some online reviews for certain brands.. this may aid your decision

Get a Camry, Corolla, Apollo, Nova with as low ks as possible. I cant think of another car that is as reliable. Yet any car with over 200 000 on the clock is going to have problems!
Alternatively get a HJ Kingswood for $1000 and bank the rest until its needed - its not unusual to buy an old Holden and do nothing to it bar change the oil for two years or so!

G’day ‘panther’,
Really think you need to add a few thousand to your $6000 to get something decent with lower clicks on the dial. Otherwise, you’ll probably only end up shelling out more for repairs later. We only buy new, but recently got a second hand Nissan Pulsar for my daughter (her 1st car).
After much searching all over Adelaide, we found a small dealer at Reynella called Deluxe Car Sales. I think they go to auctions in the eastern states and pick up the best at public / private auctions cheaply enough to make a good profit back here. Based on our experience, I can’t fault them or the vehicle. In fact, even I enjoy driving this zippy little 1600, or should I say, I did, until my daughter covered it in bloody frangipani stickers. You wouldn’t believe the ‘offer’ I got from a gay couple in a yellow Toyota convertible on Fullarton Road !!!

my missus has got a 96 pulsar and 6k would buy you one of those. I think hers would be valued at about 5500, has air and done 135k. Lots of them around too and they just keep going.

Agree with the second hand car thing but beware some new cars are just as bad.
Last company i worked for always bought new holden utes .they bought a new one the driver picked it up drove it home and the gear box fell out .It was only spot welded in .
And heard from a chap I used to work with.during his apprenticeship he had to strip a falcon door back .somehow they ran out of metal at the factory and had made the door out of a 44 gallon drum .
