New Year celebrations

So how do you celebrate the New Year...obviously here they have Hogmanay and first footing which should be a bit like this...

There are many customs, both national and local, associated with Hogmanay. The most widespread national custom is the practice of 'first-footing' which starts immediately after midnight. This involves being the first person to cross the threshold of a friend or neighbour and often involves the giving of symbolic gifts such as salt (less common today), coal, shortbread, whisky, and black bun (a rich fruit cake) intended to bring different kinds of luck to the householder. Food and drink (as the gifts) are then given to the guests. This may go on throughout the early hours of the morning and well into the next day (although modern days see people visiting houses until 3 January). The first-foot is supposed to set the luck for the rest of the year, so it is important that a suitable person does the job. According to popular folklore, a man with dark hair was welcomed because he was assumed to be a fellow Scotsman; a blond or red-haired stranger was assumed to be an unwelcome Norseman.

...these days people tend to just get p*ssed instead...on a much more local level we have some fine entertainment in the next village on 11th Jan...check out the photo's...can you hear the duelling banjo's 8-[

I hate NYE; it brings out all the DHs. If I went out I'd only be one more DH. So I'm staying home and having a few quiet ones.

I have a 2yo girl and a missus who's 5 months preggo. So for the first time in years I'll be staying at home, watching TV and possibly having a beer or six before going to bed at 10pm and waking up in 2009.

Since having kids we've stayed home mostly on NYE.
When the kids were little we'd have our own 'disco' party \:D/
Now we tend to hit the singstar  :D
And watch the new year being brought in via the telly !!
And try to stay awake :D

Wake me up when it’s 1978.
It’s been 2 years since we had any decent music or grand final winner.

I never decide on what to do NYE until about 4pm on NYE.

Hopefully my other mates will want to go to town (I don't like town) which means I can stay home and hopefully be asleep by 11pm and finally end this god forsaken year...
