Economic Security Strategy Payment
What a disgrace, Mr Rudd decides to give a Christmas Bonus of $1000- per kid to "boost the economy", oh yeah but it is means tested so half the kids miss out. How is that fair?
What makes someones kid more important than the other? I thought this country was the fair country and we are all equal?
Obviously not, a cheap political shot 12 months after the election now the honeymoon is over to keep families pro Labor.
Discrimination of the highest order........

Better not be taxable
TBH, I won't say no, we had a feeling we'd get it, so we'll ensure our kids get it (ie bank/new bed to replace cot etc).
It'll just give a whole heap of people out there a reason to blow a grand instead of doing something for there
kids......

I've never got any freebie from any government of any political persuasion. Paid plenty in taxes though

The pokie barons will be getting a Xmas bonus from this latest bout of government generosity

absolutely Mick, if the opposition was smart they would track the increase Pokie revenue in the week it is paid.
While I understand most parent will sensibly use it for their kids benefit, sadly there is an element that will blow it in no time which will only harm the kids even more...

And the same parents will whinge that the government doesn't do enough for them.
Maybe they could bring in chemical castration as a pre-requisite for the DOLE might see an upward swing in people searching for jobs.

Economic Security Strategy Lump Sum Payments
for Australian pensioners, people with disability, carers, veterans and families
In the face of the global economic crisis, the Australian Government is strengthening the national economy and supporting Australian households who are in need of immediate financial help.
That is why, from December 2008, pensioners, seniors, people with disability, carers, veterans and families will be provided with immediate financial assistance through the Economic Security Strategy Lump Sum Payments.
These payments are part of the Australian Government's $10.4 billion Economic Security Strategy to strengthen the Australian economy. They build on existing support measures, recognising that many people require immediate assistance to help them meet their needs.
Assistance for pensioners, people with disability, seniors, carers and veterans
The Australian Government is providing Economic Security Strategy Payments to seniors, people with disability, carers and veterans.
The Australian Government is delivering this down payment to provide immediate financial help in the lead up to comprehensive pension reform.
Who is eligible?
You will receive the additional payments if, on 14 October 2008, you were eligible to receive one of the payments listed below because of a claim made on or before that date:
Age Pension
Disability Support Pension
Carer Payment
Carer Allowance
Wife and Widow B Pension
Partner, Widow and Bereavement Allowance
Veterans' Affairs Service Pension
Veterans' Affairs Income Support Supplement
You will also be eligible to receive the additional payment if, on 14 October 2008, you:
held a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card (CSHC)
held a Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card and were also eligible for Seniors Concession Allowance
were of Age Pension age and eligible to receive Parenting Payment, Special Benefit or Austudy because of a claim made on or before that date.
How much is the payment?
If you were entitled to receive an eligible pension or allowance (excluding Carer Allowance) or held a CSHC, the payment will be $1400 for singles and $2100 for couples. Those receiving the partnered rate of the pension will receive $1050 per person.
If you were entitled to receive Carer Allowance, the payment will be $1000 for each eligible care receiver. Carers who share Carer Allowance for the same care receiver will receive the additional payment in the same proportion as their Carer Allowance.
When and how will the payment be made?
Payments will automatically be made during the fortnight commencing 8 December 2008. For DVA pensioners and card holders, including those who are eligible for the payment but reside overseas, this means that payments will be made on pension payday 18 December 2008.
Assistance for families
The Australian Government is providing security and help for families through an Economic Security Strategy Payment.
Who is eligible?
You will be eligible for the additional payment if you:
are entitled to Family Tax Benefit Part A (FTB Part A) or
have a dependent child/children eligible to receive Youth Allowance, Abstudy or a Veterans' Children Education Scheme (VCES) payment.
If your family was eligible for any of the listed payments on 14 October 2008, you will automatically receive the additional payment.
How much is the payment?
Eligible families will receive the additional payment of $1000 for each eligible child in their care.
When and how will the payment be made?
Centrelink will make all payments to eligible families, including those for DVA’s VCES students. For most eligible families the payment will occur in the fortnight commencing 8 December 2008.
Payment will be made directly into bank accounts for families whose children attract fortnightly payments of:
FTB Part A
Youth Allowance
Abstudy
Veterans' Children Education Scheme payments.
For families who receive their FTB Part A as a lump sum at the end of the financial year, the additional payment will be made at the same time as their FTB Part A payment.
If you share the care of your child or children and have at least 35 per cent care you may be entitled to a portion of the additional payment. The payment will be shared according to the Family Tax Benefit percentage of each child.

The entire policy benefits those who need it most. I don't necessarily agree with handouts of this nature, but it will help a lot of people in low income demographics who struggle at this time of year.
Not all low income families are dole bludging, drug addicts ya know
