RAA has no balls!

Why do we even have an RAA?

Page 3 of today's Advertiser is a perfect example. "Users are being ripped off", according to RAA manager Matthew Hanton. A fall of 15c in the wholesale price of LPG has not been passed on. Sure, petrol has dropped but diesel and LPG are still too expensive. How about we see some action from them instead of more words! I think it's just another case of consumers bending over and taking it up the you know what.

They should stick with the nudist camps that they have branched out into.

Drop Bear

If world leaders/ the ACCC / etc... can't control oil prices and petrol prices, what the hell makes you think the RAA can?

Not sure what the RAA are meant to do about this Drop Bear... As far as I can see, by getting this issue on page 3 they have done their job of lobbying on behalf of motorists for cheaper prices. They're not a body like the ACCC with the abililty to impose fines etc. What would you propose they do?

Now now Booney you know of a young lady that used to work there. I am sure you would not talk about her in that manner.

Talk talk talk talk talk. Just like bloody politicians, but that's a whole other can of worms.

Just shows the horrible greed of oil companies. Especially, considering LPG is a bi product.

I thought the RAA's role was to provide roadside and breakdown services to members, and to advocate for motorists by making statements as they did.
They don't have any actual legal or political power beyond that.
If you want to have an effect each one of us should pick up the statement and write an individual letter to each MP.
It is the total number of individual voters complaining that motivates a Cabinet, not anything a powerless "authority" can say or do.
Petitions also get discounted compared to individual letters.

The RAA are not being slack here, the voters are.
What you have to do is send enough letters to enough MPs and make them nervous enough to pester the Cabinet and make the Cabinet nervous enough to put the issue on their agenda.
[And that's a quote from my local Federal MP.]

That said, the Asian market is mostly for Diesel fuel and that drives Diesel up relative to Petrol.
LPG prices are just profiteering by producers and State governments.

The RAA isn't a company, it's a club/organisation which relies on member subscriptions, which all goes straight back into providing roadside service and other services (inspections/travel, etc..).

People get it confused with RAA Insurance. 2 separate entities...

I'm not sure purchasing servo's is going to be the answer there..

Not the craziest idea though. Some European clubs have done something along those lines I believe...

As a member of the RAA and policy holder RAA insurance (house, contents, two cars), I have had nothing but the best service from each. The spokesperson in that article has been waging war on petrol prices for quite some time now and doing a great job on our behalf.
