What a very racist view.
Violence happens in almost every culture, to ship them off back to a war torn country with no regards on their safety is very UN-AUSTRALIAN. Show some compassion of their plight that is what Australia is all about.

What would do then with the Australians shooting at each other in Gouger St? or is that ok because they are Australian!

C'mon Punk, you reckon weapon violence is exclusive to African immigrants?

I've had a knife pulled on me by some dumb Nazi skinhead. A mate was stabbed badly in his shoulder by another dumb Nazi skinhead on a separate occasion. How often have we heard about shootings in the CBD the past year?

This is more a reflection of Western culture.

Come on Punky  You think no white Australian has ever stabbed a fellow white Australian in Australia :?

If we shipped out every race where one person did something like this there'd be no-one left

Was it last year that a white Australian was gunned down in Kadina (?) by fellow white Australians?

Yeah that should solve it  .

I am sure that they are not the first and they won't be last to stab, shoot or bash one of their own. Sending them back on a boat would make things worse not better.

Regardless of colour or race, people who have grown up in a society where violence is common and de facto part of everyday life are more inclined to see it as normal, and resort to it when frustrated.
Talking nicely to them about it doesn't make much difference - they just see you as being weak.

That is really the central issue about taking in refugees, it does change your society.
Adopting kids beyond the age of infancy carries similar risks.

I'm not sure what the answer is now we have done it though.

the problem is they have adopted the ugly parts of western culture to the fullest extent- e.g. 50CENT wannabes and think it is cool to roam the streets in baggy clothes and be a "gangster"

Spot On!
Driving through Fulham with a mate not that long ago.
Saw two Sudanese dudes hanging out all dressed up like LA gang members wearing the 'colours' etc.
They looked pretty intimidating. My mate made an off the cuff comment that it wont be long before they start killing each other.
Look whats happened.

Its a shame, because the Sudanese people that I have encountered in daily life have been really easy going people.

They have big problems in Melbourne at the moment.

The other thread has a better perspective too. The people who were stabbed were junior footballers at Kenilworth and posters on this site were involved with them. We've had our fair share of problems with some Sudanese people at Kilburn but they are the small minority. Most are great people.

I think more to the point is when you dress with the intent to intimidate, you cant expect all parts of society to embrace you.

In Melbourne Sudanese gangs are attacking other teenagers every week.
If you're walking down the street and theyre coming towards you it is VERY intimidating.

and by no means are they ONLY intimidating crew on the street.

Perhaps the issue is the carring of knives in public in general?

My other opinion is that anyone who comes to Australia from another country, be they a refugee or on a work visa and commits crimes of a violent nature should be sent back as a result. I feel that this may be the best way to actually stop others from doing the same thing by sending them a clear message that violence will not be tolerated. However when you consider the slap on the wrist approach that happens to people in general in Adelaide that commit crime, its probably unlikely to happen until we make changes to the system here for everyone else.

What's your time span on that ? For example an Italian immigrant that came out after WW2 had an argument with his wife, and in a rage stabs her.
So we ship him back to the "motherland" after living in Australia for 50 years. A Vietnamese refugee that came out during the Vietnam war does the same, ship them back home too ? That an interesting debate all in it's own....

It's a sad thing that had happened, and one that is not needed in our society no matter what race or where you come from...

I think that might have actually happened! I remember reading a provocation case and those facts are remarkably similar.

Well, seeing as he killed someone I dare say he won't get a slap on the wrist. Are you saying getting sent back to Sudan is more of a deterrent than 20 years in gaol?

Is it humane to send people back to a country if they are a refugee? Do you just boot them out at the airport and say good riddance? What happens if they get tortured for coming back? Or take the other side of the coin, they go back and lead a normal life. Then they have escaped punishment for their crime.
