You have to wonder what kind of upbringing would make a 5 year old even think of doing this...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tyne/7680257.stmBoy, 5, brings knife into school
A five-year-old boy smuggled a knife into a Tyneside school to use as a weapon on a teacher.
Gateshead Council said the child was suspended after being caught with the cutlery knife in June.
It is believed he planned to attack a teacher so he would be moved to a class next to his older brother.
Officials have not named the school for fear of identifying the child. Police were informed and the pupil was later evaluated by psychologists.
Maggie Atkinson, the council's group director of learning and children, said: "The school acted immediately, calmly and professionally.
"The article was confiscated, parents and the police were informed and the matter was fully investigated.
"The child was made aware of how serious the matter was and we feel everything that was done was appropriate."
Mick Lyons, of teaching union NASUWT, said the incident was "frightening".
He said: "From what I am led to believe he intended to bring the knife in to stab a teacher.
"It is the first time I've heard of a child that young smuggling a knife into school, it's frightening."

He's probably a Geordies fan, so he hasn't been brought up, he's been dragged up kicking a screaming.
The knife - probably just frustrated about Kevin Keegan being sacked.

Time for Psyber the master of citing studies to do some work. I know there have been many studies done on whether violence on TV affects criminal behaviour and (at least in my opinion) the literature is inconclusive. Have any studies been done on people this young?

Or Denis Wise's - he is nuts too.
Or maybe Joey Barton's popped a couple out.

I still believe Hans Eysenck, in "Sex, Violence, and the Media.", and it fits with my observations in my professional life..
But I won't be researching it right now - my wife died suddenly yesterday and I'm feeling devastated...

My godson turned 7 at the weekend and at 5yo his life revolved around Thomas the Tank Engine and Bob the Builder. He probably couldn't even contemplate something like this.
I know it says he wanted to be next to his brother but I doubt the brother is much older so he shouldn't be thinking this carp either.

Psyber...my deepest condolences to you and your family

My sincere condolences on your loss Psyber, we might not have agreed on a few things, actually seem to be on the same page more often than not, but I sincerely wish you well at this tough time! This is where the meaning of "Fortis in Procella" comes into play.

Thanks guys...
Local friends are rallying - a local restauranter shouted me a long lunch today, and I helped her set up computers.
I've decided to return to Adelaide next year, where I have relatives and long-term friends - and the Norwood FC.
Having something to do and some shape for the future helps.

Yes, if I get to Adelaide in time I'll probably even come to some of the pre-season practices, and then get to a few matches through the year.
Life will be a bit empty, and I'll need to find things to do.
My wife had been increasingly ill for years with a chronic lung problem, but we both thought we had a few more years before it got serious..
