What would make you change?

A philosophical question that has stemmed from a not so philosophical decision I am currently faced with.
I am about to change jobs, which involves picking up a new car on a novated lease. I have always considered myself a Holden man, not to the point of being a fanatic but I did own a Holden jacket as a kid and I have never contemplated driving a Ford (have owned a Toyota, briefly) and always thought Dick Johnson was aptly named, just because he drove a Ford.
My new employer has a deal with Ford where I can purchase a 6 month old Falcon XR6 (current model) with a discount of approximately $10k.
This $10k is enough to make me buy a Falcon. Even though my Dad may not allow me back in his house!
What is enough money to compromise on different values/beliefs? Anyone faced something similar or even more troubling to their conscience?

Yes I have. It's a nice car as well. Am off to test drive one today. Just not sure on the logistics of showering every time I get out of the car...

Well I bought a 7 year old Audi S2 with 88,000Km on the clock rather than a new top end Holden or Ford for similar money.
When I last had a Holden in th 1970s I thought they handled much better than the Fords of that era, and money would not have gotten me into a Ford.
I haven't compared them lately, but I didn't like the last Falcon I drove as a hire car in 1998. I preferred a Mitsubishi Lancer I hired in 2003 for a few days.
In the end it is value for money, not just money. If there is no value difference go with the money!

smac it's $10K !
I am sure
$10K will build all the emotional bridges you''ll need .... and you'll still have the
$10K after construction is completed
I let go of a Holden attachment 5 years ago and am very happy with what i've got
In 2 years' time you'll wonder what all the stress was about

my personal opinion is the VE Commodore is far superior having looked at both recently, however if the falcon was a $10k better deal for me I reckon if would make it an easy decision, I cant understand why some love cars so much and more thousands in them, as long as they are comfortable and get you wher eyou want to be thats all you need!

Who gives a 5hit...a car is a car, as long as it takes you from point A to B in reasonable comfort and safety that's all you can ask.
The difference is when you get to point B you have an extra 10k to spend !!

Tell ya Dad that..
Smac: "Well Dad, umm my work said I either get a Ford or I need to have a gender realignment...."
Snr Smac: "Well son. I'd rather you had a C*** then a Ford, at least C***'s are useful"

I used to be a Holden man but didnt need any cash incentive to switch to Ford. The superior product and more room was enough at the time.
Last year was tossing up between a SV6 and a XR6 and was willing to change back to Holden but there was no comparison and went for the older XR.
I got a similar deal to you (10K off retail) and its great. Make sure you get the 6 speed.
Falcon less likely to be stolen and is a safer car roo.

Is that the 6 spd manual or semi auto wedgie? I just drove the semi auto, pretty bloody nice, I must admit. It's the little things that I need to get used to, ford logo on the steering wheel looked really weird. Drives nicely, I think I'm sold.

6 speed auto mate (they call it semi auto but you rarely use it).
German engineering and same gear box used in luxury cars worth 200k.
Make sure you get a GT stripe too, really adds to the look for minimal price.
Mines red with a white stripe, see if you can add some blue too.

Beauty, thanks for that. Up to colour and option selections now. Probably crank the price up to cover the $10k saving knowing me.

He didn't ask about the merits of the cars. He asked about the philosophy of changing them....
We all know you've had thousands of cars and an opinion on each and every one of them.

I could put a gold/silver/white/red GT stripe on mine, but I think it'll look better all-black.
