Have you been to Melbourne?

Postby spell_check » Wed Sep 24, 2008 12:16 am

A unusual stat that Constance_Perm has asked me is how this poll has come about. I have never been to Melbourne before, and the question posed is how many SAFooty posters have not been to Melbourne in the past 10 years. If you have never been there, then 'never' is the option. ;)

I went there most recently last year to see a Port game.

First went there in 1987 when i was 15, to watch Australia beat Sweden in the Davis Cup final.

Great sporting city, certainly wouldn't fancy living there though.

We've lived in Melbourne since January 1999, apart from 6 months back in Adelaide in late 2003 for family reasons. We don't intend to stay permanently though.
Prior to that I'd been to Melbourne twice - once in 1961 passing through to Sydney by train and once in early 1996 for an art exhibition that wasn't coming to Adelaide.
We had also been to Woodend, near Melbourne, to buy a couple of dogs in 1976.

This'll upset the SAFooty applecart, but IMO, Melbourne is the 2nd best city in the world only to London.

I've spent a fair amount of time on work trips and would love to be there permanently when the Poms boot me out.

Our daughter who had worked in London for 2 years as a nurse agreed with you, and settled in Melbourne on returning with a group of friends from Melbourne also returning to Oz.
It was her brush with cancer in late 1998 that brought us here - she beat it and is quite well now.

I am employed by a Melbourne-based institution. Have to go there occasionally to touch base with the boss, if for no other reason. Great place to visit but would be a pain in the clacker to live there.

I went to Melbourne for work in 2001 and came back in 2003. I should've stayed. As a recruitment agent said to me in about 2004 "coming back to Adelaide is like committing career suicide" for my line of work.

I should've stayed, I loved the place and I've still got plans to make it 'home' again in the near future.

The tram system is sensational and the trains are good enough to get around easily.

LMAO I can't believe you did this Spelly

I've been to Melbourne for both work, footy and to visit a gf several times a year for about 15 years now ... Great place to party, but as Im a bit older I don't think I could live there now (although it was once my intention).

I went there when I was two years old and can't remember a thing. My mum has told me that I ran amok on the tram when we went there though.

I will probably have to visit again if I decide to head overseas next year to visit the British consulate to apply for a visa seeing as Adelaide doesn't have one
