From my experience in my group, there's only two reasons a salad is introduced.

1) Catered for by a female partner of the lads
2) Provided by the lads to ensure no complaining by a partner is done due to being a meat only feast

Grated carrot mixed with grated "Kraft" cheese is the bomb at any BBQ, I've never had any left over at any BBQ I've ever done or taken it to!
