well little bayman like his football teams (u/9's) scores to go up & 'kookas' gets up saying it isn't allowed you'll get clubs fined, it isn't right etc etc (the kids know who has won & lost anyway)

so if anyone is driving past the glenelg primary school (next to the bay oval) have a look at what is on their notice board for every passer by to see, for those not in the area it says "glenelg primary school congratulate 'green' on WINNING SPORTS DAY"

SO KOOKAS MY FRIEND WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE ?

ps, little bayman hasn't played in a winning team at all this year but has kicked 6 goals (i know because it has cost me $30.00) whoops i spoke out loud

Christ you carry on...

SImple.. THe rules of the Metro South Football League is that any scores to Under 10's (or 11's) are not to be published. It's THE RULES.

Not everyone may agree with them (I dont), but they are THE RULES and RULES need to be adhered to. Do you think Kookas warns you about it for fun?

Schools would probably be different, while with the junior primary activities there is no active "competition" and they are promoting development and participation. every kid just gets an "I participated" ribbon (which is crap, but its THE RULES). The middle and upper primary kids activities go towards the house score. While the big kids are running the 100m, the little ones are doing egg and spoon races.

how much longer are you going to carry on about this? :?

One is slowly introducing the idea of competition using trained educators.

The other is using well meaning volunteers who need some pretty clear rules set for them because it has been proven time and again that they get carried away with the idea of competition for little kids instead of concentrating on the basics of the game.

I think u are too worried about stats and results mate. The point of junior footy is a bit of fun in an uncompetitive manner, dont take it too seriously mate. Your son will suffer because of it. Let him enjoy his footy, worry about results when he is old enough.

firstly all you clowns, i take & watch him every week i say absolutely nothing at games not even encouragement, i say to him before the game on the way there to enjoy himself, listen to the coach & attack the footy, it isn't my fault that some idiots make stupid rules but i accept that, this post was asking the question WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE between those rules & what is on the notice board at the gps & it is no real difference imho

what they should be doing is stopping parents, family & friends from barracking as if they are at a game of league football & i have one person particularly in mind when i say this & he is from the same club as little bayman plays for & THAT IS WHAT SHOULD BE STOPPED

no scores were put up  they only congratulate the coloured team
only joking BAYMAN. you know where i stand on this.
my parents kept a scrapbook of all their childrens achievements that were published in print whether it be sports or academic as a reminder of what they did during their childhood and something to look back on.
the world keeps changing too much from what we grew up with and will continue to change the next generation

Why exactly should encouragement, clapping and cheering be eliminated from a game?
I couldnt imagine not giving encouragement to my kids, their teammates and the opposition during games.
Kids would hate it if it was deafly silent and would think noone cared.

PS scores are kept and published in the Sunday Mail in my sons Year 2\3 comp as well as best players and goalkickers. Boys love it and daughter is very jealous as they didnt do the same for early years netball.

When I was a kid they used to publish our footy results in the paper: final scores and best players.

The one time - and I do mean one time, since I was fundamentally inept at football - I got onto the best players, I waited all week to get the next weekend's paper and dutifully looked up the scores..... only to find that our score wasn't published that week

This incident marked the end of my idyllic childhood and began the long, tortuous slide into real life. When I finally go postal and go on a rampage with a semi-automatic weapon, I shall mention this incident in the suicide note that I leave behind me.

To be politically correct, we are supposed to be "de-emphasising" competitiveness - that is training aspiration, achievement, and excellence out of our children, along with its negative aspects [belittling behaviour towards others, cruelty, and brutality] - so those who are not as good at popular activities don't feel bad. The theory says that they can learn not to value competitiveness now, and change to valuing it later in life when it becomes a life skill.

I don't see why we have to do this. Why can't we reward excellence and aspiration, while stressing that we can't all be good at the same things and each can achieve in their own way. For example, I remember fondly a schoolmate the one year I did woodwork. I was good at the academic aspects of the course and lousy at the practical, and he was an artist with the tools but struggled to understand plans and diagrams. We respected and helped each other - although in those days were weren't supposed to.

Just to be quite clear - I don't see anything wrong in posting scores and knowing who won at sport - or who got things right at school.

FFS we should have kids wanting to win no more of this fu**in' as long as you compete crap. When my kids fight one of them ones and the other on sooks. I was always taught winning is everything losing is nothing. Political Correctness is killing society as we know it and these do gooders can kiss my ass.

I understand the views of those who don't like the current climate regarding competition for school kids, I held the same views myself until about 5 years ago. I fought (from the inside) with schools, junior leagues and even the CDFC and blindly refused to see the other side of the debate.

I was shown several papers released by various sporting and education bodies that proved to me that it is a worthwhile exercise to hold off on the development of competitive urges until the child was of an age more able to cope with the highs and lows as well as when the educator (coach, manager, teacher, whatever) was competent in teaching the skills well.

I have seen dozens of junior coaches in football alone and I reckon 3 of them had the right idea about teaching those skills, the rest would turn your kids into either a wuss or a wanker.

Valid point smac - it is getting the balance right and not going to either extreme that matters.

However, in many fields people can slant the structure of their studies to get the result they want, even unconsciously, so you have to look at their methodology carefully. That recent " Antidepressants don't work" one was an example - they used DSM-IV as the basis if selecting people for the study, but it is a classification that fails to distinguish between people reacting to stress and those developing symptoms that look very similar for no apparent reason.

I agree, kids should be encouraged and I always used to go early to local ruby matches to watch the mini rugby. I think it does them good to experience playing in front of a crowd and most would only ever encourage them regardless of team or performance.

Sadly these days there are too many who can't keep their encouragement under control like most. We've had occassional news items about parents at kids soccer verbally and physically attacking each other, officials and even kids from opposition teams. Even though they would be very much in the minority I think their behaviour could probably have a serious effect on the kids. I suspect that those parents would just as easily be guilty of road rage, trolley rage, air rage etc etc etc.

Regards
JAS

wedgie, i just observe the game & say nothing, as for clapping etc of course that happens & is fine but what i meant is when a 'parent' calls the umpire a f....n d....h..d & yells out holding the f.....n ball, also statements directed towards the players (both sides) which isn't encouragement, that is what i meant should be stopped
