I quoted 1980 tassie medalist and then wrote my piece inside his writing and when I posted it it showed up as me quoting him and none of my own writing. See overrated thread.
So really ive put words into his mouth that he didn't actually say by accident.

Its not a defect in the website, its a defect in people stuffing it up.
Its quite simple, if you put your replies "inside" his quote of course its going to show up as all one quote.
With the quote button you just put your spiel after you quote the other person.
If you want to edit "inside" a quote so only a certain part showing (which I'd recommend at times lots of people do quotes of quotes of quotes of quotes which gets messy) just detlete the parts you don't want inside the quote but try to leave the important parts ie the bits of code in tact.
If you wish to quote parts then comment then quote further comments of course it will take a bit of playing around but it doesn't take much nouse but I would recommend if you think its a website defect and don't realise what you're doing wrong to steer cleer of trying that.
All phpbb2 sites and quite a lof ot other forums work like this and its honestly the first time I've heard someone not work out how to use it.
Also for people like Lunchcutter, don't click on the "Disable BBCode in this post" button when you quote someone as it doesn't work and means I have to go in and edit your post to make it understandable.
Also, when it doubt click on the "BBCode" link which gives detailed explanations on how BBCode works.
And an even big also is use the PREVIEW button if you're not sure with what you're doing as that will show you how your post looks before it goes online.
Cheers.
