Wondering if anyone has some advice. Looking at getting another credit card . Does anyone know of any websites that compare banks rates etc. Or any deals with good deals currently on interest rates?

bit like biying a car these days, it depends on your needs.....most banks etc will have a section on their website comparing all their options...

-If you want it for finance (i.e. leave debt on it each month) go for no frills and low rate/no annual fee
-If you want to pay off IN FULL each month and rewards then you will have to pay an Annual Fee but obviously you wont be paying interest (therefore it dont matter)

Also suggest you check out http://www.choice.com.au as Im sure they would have info on C/Cards

All credit cards interest rates are obscene. Never use them for anything you can't pay for - it is a poverty trap.

Those who compile massive amounts of credit card debt are part of the reason national debt is so high,inflation is up and so are interest rates.

The wife and I have no credit cards,dont need them,dont want them.

It's all my fault.

In the UK Egg, or rather the new owners of Egg, have just withdrawn credit cards from more than 100,000 of their customers. The credit crunch is starting to bite here.

At this point in time I can't see my self ever getting one either. however I do use a visa linked debit card for those larger purchases that you just can't use cash for.

Me too heater! I worked in finance for 10 years, saw enough misery created by credit cards to put me off for life. Pretty happy about that too.

The one good side of using credit cards is that you can improve your credit rating by having one and paying them off on time. When I first applied for a loan most banks turned me down simply because I had no credit rating. Two months later they were keen to snap up my business as I had a credit card and had managed to pay off the full amount each month.

I won't use traditional credit cards either...mainly because I wouldn't trust myself not to max them out. I use one of those pre-paid cards. I got it for paying my club membership and occasional online shopping etc. It's like a normal Mastercard but you have to put the money onto it before you can spend so I always try to keep around £50 on it for emergencies and top it up when I need to ie Xmas or forthcoming birthdays etc. Also means I know that if I ever had it stolen/lost I couldn't lose more than the current balance. I might not gain interest on the money but then I ain't paying interest either.

You don't need that good a record anymore. Banks will give anyone money.

I believe quite a few are crying foul (pardon the pun) and accusing them of trying to dump customers who pay the least interest etc and will therefore be less profitable. If you're interested here's the latest on it...just in case the idea starts to spread around the globe.

Probably right there, BDP. Admittedly it may be harder since the subprime collapse though! Actually, I had no credit history until well into the 1990's. Nowadays, I probably have a pretty bad one! Moving house is soooooooooo expensive and I keep on doing it!!

Dutchy, that surprises me as financial representatives still mention it openly. Perhaps the term should just be changed to a Credit History?

would be more accurate...all it records is any serious defaults (you would have to be dumb for it to get to this stage) and credit enquiries you have made....it doesnt track what your repayment history is like (unless you default)

BTW anyone can get a copy of their own report, its not as mysterious as many believe!

I think Credit Rating comes from the US where there is some type of rating system....
