Just wondering what everyone's views are on how long you should "date" someone before you go to bed with them...

For the purposes of this topic, the following types of casual sex relationships are excluded:

-Booty Call (phone call or sms undertaken by one party to encourage the other to engage in casual sex)

-Friend with benefits (a friend with whom you occasionally hook up or have sex with but without the deeper commitment of a relationship - more meaningful than a booty call because often the participants were friends first and sex partners later)

-F*** buddy (ongoing, semiregular, no-strings-attached casual sex)

-Hookup (sexual act with a person you are not dating or seriously committed to, encompasses the booty call, the NSA [below], and the one-night stand)

-No strings attached (NSA) (hookup in which both participants are aware that there are no future expectations)

-One-night stand (hookup with someone for one night of sex with no strings attached with the knowledge that you will never see the person again, with the conscious decision not to exchange personal information such as phone numbers)

We are talking about when you are dating someone who you can see yourself being in a relationship with. Some might say there's nothing wrong with sex on the first date, others think you should wait.

I don't think you can have a blanket ruling for this, each situation & circumstance is different. I met a my last g/f in town, we spent the night partying on, we went "home" the first night (with her friend, & no, dammit!:x), she stayed for an hour.

We then spent a whole night together talking, & had our first kiss (our second meeting), & the next night, we went out for tea. After tea, we spent some more time cuddling & kissing. At this point, we discussed "when would the right time to have sex be?" We decided not to, saying that it would happen when it was meant to happen. Half hour later, I'd opened my account .

My point is though, we were concious of not rushing things, it was the 3rd "date" , & we felt the time was right. We ended up getting engaged, but it didn't work out. I think denying sex, is only there to ascertain as to whether someone is after a one-nighter, or the long haul. If you both decide your ready to give a relationship a go, then I think your ready to be sexual with that person.
