The 'Overrated' thread

..the thread were you bag something that has many observers actually rating it/them for some reason - obviously Tony Grieg would not apply as who rates Tony Grieg??

Overrated

20/20 Cricket. The unfunniest joke in sport

Big Brother. How so many people can be 'entertained' eavesdropping on the conversations of complete morons is beyond me.

Australian Idol. Apparently it is all about how good you look, not if you can actually sing or not. Mark Holden the lamest 'perfomer' in pop history by a long way as one of the judges..says it all really.

John Howard. Likes to think he is one of Australia's greatest PMs but will go down in history as someone who kissed George W Bush's ar5e on an almost continual basis.

Renee Zweliger. Is there an uglier female Hollywood celebrity? No, is there really??

Collingwood football club. Has won one premiership in the last 50 years and thinks of itself as the Manchester United of Australian sport.

The modern pop scene. Overproduced pre-fabricated pop stars who would be woeful without there backing tapes. The days of doing over 500 shows before you could get an album out are long gone and you can tell when you listen to the generic sound of popular music today.

Pay TV. Designed by manufacterers of batteries to sell thier product as you endlessly chanell surf your way to something worth watching. If it wasn't for the footy I wouldn't own it and if you don't follow footy don't get Fox. The gems are getting harder and harder to spot and most of the stuf on Fox these days is the carp that was rejected by the networks because it is rubbish. Most of the decent docos can be seen on SBS and the ABC anyhow.

Desperate Houswives. Utter 5hite. How can such a promisingly named series be so dreadful. A feminist whine of the the most mundane order. The height of tedium.

Sarah Jessica Parker. See Renee Zwelgier.

Tom Waits. Have you heard this guy's stuff? Sounds like my old man after a night on the turps and 500 cigarettes. Makes Rod Stewarts voice sound smoother than Angelina's Jolie's thighs (grrrrrrrr).

Rolling Stone Magazine. This bunch of to55ers bagged the 5hit out of many top rock acts over the years only to conduct mass debate sessions 2 decades later about how good these same acts were.

Tom Cruise. The most overrated actor in the History of Hollywood (with the possible exception of Robert Mitchum). Always plays a hotshot this or a hotshot that. The only time he came close to acting was during the making of Born on the Fourth of July but the rest is cookie cutting bullshit. YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH SCIENTOLOGY BOY.

Tom Hanks. An academy award for playing Forrest Gump. A truly comedic performance by the academy that deserved a lifetime achievement award. A special mention for talking to volleyballs.

REB

Agree with all bar Tom Hanks. Not many actors could do almost a complete film talking to Wilson the Soccerball.

How about these.
GW Bush who sat in a classroom for ages when planes hit the pentigon and the World Trade Centre.
Katie Homes for hooking up with Tom Cruise.
South Adelaide FC for promising so much at the start of each season, then falling away half way through.
Sydney Swans (Up to last year).

Sorry Eags but nobody rates GW Bush, Katie Holmes or South. And as you pointed out the Swannies are now reigning premier.

Do agree with just about all of your points REB.
(Will have already mentioned some of this before, so please forgive me.)
No one will convince me that the voting setup of Big Brother is not rigged after the 2004 fiasco. Did watch it a bit but only because of Fitzy.
Can't comment on Desperate Housewives as I don't watch it for the reasons you already mentioned.

Just about everyone hates Cruise these days.
'Risky Business' is still a favourite of mine though.

So you don't have "I Wanna Make You My Lady" as your ringtone?

1) the Ablett "mark" of the century. Did he actually hold it long enough/have control of it??

2) Rod Laver, generally thought of as the greatest ever tennis player. Did he have the competition from stars that players in other eras did?? Apparently Lou Hoad consistently beat him when he was past it and Laver was in his prime.

3) Rugby League, how can throwing people on the ground 5 times in a row constitute a sport? Its only the 6th tackle that is anywhere near worth watching.

4) Stephen Kernahan, did he ever kick a decent drop punt in his life?

I think you are being a bit harsh on poor old Thomas there Ricky. I actually met a girl who cried when that volley ball floated away...how many actors have you seen that are able to draw an emotional attachment between a piece of sporting equipment and an audience?

As for Tom Cruise, he only gets good press (believe it or not) in Japan. I find it very interesting when I check the net for news from the outside and everyone seems to be pissed off with him.
Anyone care to share a Tom Cruise story?

Sheesh FallingStrut! This is a female you are talking about. If he could make a bloke cry with that carp you might have a point. Now that's two that have stuck up for Hanks and I'm not having it! Hanks won the Academy Award for best actor two years in a row..a feat that has only been equalled by Spencer Tracy. So according to the Academy, Tom Hanks is a better actor than Dean, Brando, O Toole, De Niro and Peck...now that is overrated mon ami!

Not quite, Rickymelad. What it means is that the Academy considers Tom Hanks was a better actor for two years in a row.

Anything to do with Chopper Read.

That includes his books, biopic and Ronnie Johns.

Can't come at this one, especially having read and studied Paul Keating the modern prototype ar5e-licking factional serving party hack that has sporned a generation of subserviant politicians who have no idea what the real life entails. He road into politics on the coat-tails of Jack Lang and Eddie Ward. At least Howard went out and woked for a while before entering politics unlike Keating and his Labor party sporns.

And Labor wonders why it can't connect with modern Australia voters. Bring back real Labor party people such as Mick Young (wharfie) and Chris Hurford (shearer) as candidates and they might have a chance not these faceless clones of union officials and electoral officers.

Paul Keating - OVERRATED!!

having said that, the Libs have gone down that path with some of their candidates but to a lesser extent than Labor.

Interesting that Keating made the comment in the mid '80's about Australia possibly becoming a "banana republic", yet it was Hawke and himself that preceeded to sell the country off in their ensuing leadership.

My over ratedsz in no particular order.

NORWOOD FOOTBALL CLUB. Have achieved much success over the years second to Port however are nowhere near as successful or as far ahead of their nearest rivals (North and Sturt) as the average punter thinks.

LARGE BREASTS. We all know what happens to them with age.

EXPENSIVE RESTUARANTS. You pay top dollar for a meal that is generally undersized and no nicer than mums cooking or a standard 15 dollar Cafe meal.

HIGH SCORING ONE DAY INTERNATIONALS. Yes we like to see 310 beat 309 but in my opinion one of the most exciting one day games I have seen was this years ING Final. One Day cricket is far too predictable.

THE CONDITIONS ON SUNDAY MORNING FOR THE ING FINAL. Darren im sorry but day games have started at 930 am ever since there inception and if there has been rain around in the days prior that is stiff bickies. You were 1/60. Harris and Cosgrove played expansive drives to balls pitching short of a good length and you were trying to glide to third man when two slips were in position. Neither of these 3 strokes are the order of the day when the ball is moving around. Winners are grinners and losers can please themselves. NSW put the ball in the right areas and deserved their win.

<edit by Wedgie: Sorry dash, a couple of those although I agree with them were just over the line and had to go>

Bite me. 5 flags since 75 compared to 2 for Sturt and 2 for North. If you want to say 'why since 75' I say to you over the whole journey our success rate in comparision to Sturt in North looks better not worse. Remember that everyone's record except for Centrals this decade is ordinary compared to Port's level of success. Remember we've only been shite since 2003 and Sturt and North haven't won a flag in that period.

Cripes, we beat Sturt every time we played them last year and also won last start against the Roosters when all they had to do was defeat our overrated club to claim the double chance. As for your sex complaints, I'd suggest that you were born a snake handler and you'll die a snake handler.
