Myself and a few mates are trying to plan a footy trip to Melbourne this season to see the crows play,
if anyone has been over there for footy before.... Any ideas on a nice but still cheap place to stay the would suit about 4 - 5 lads??

Dudley St Melbourne.Walk to the pubs,Telsta Dome (5 min stagger),20 min walk to the 'G',10 minutes to the markets.Good value, get share accomodation, about 4,maybe 5 blokes in bunks in 1 room.
Stayed 5 times there,all good,cheap and easy,not nasty.

The Atlantis motel on Spencer St, bloody well priced (by comparison to others), faces Telstra Dome and is about a 3 minute walk away from Goldfingers, the Mens Gallery and any other exquisite delights to be found on Lonsdale St

I was a member there for a while and always relished a trip to Melbourne for this reason more than any other ... Sadly over the last 3-4 years I think that Goldfingers offers much better value for money (loin for coin) (can I say that?? If not feel free to moderate me Daniel-son)!!

Just wear a coat to the Telstra Dome.
I LOVE the place, best footy viewing in Oz, but its frigging freezing roof open or closed.

Saw Greenday there, about 20 degrees outside, lost about 3kg in the steam.Wish I could have done about 10 more.

Feel guilty watching the Footy at Telstra, surely it's not meant to be THAT comfortable??

Only if you stand behind the goals, on the wings it's very pleasant!

Seems a lot of S.A. people stay at the Victoria on Little Collins St. Seems to me it cant even rate a star.
If you are coming over with 3-4 mates, probably cost you $10.00 each more to stay somewhere nice, so I reakon go for it. After all you want to enjoy the weekend, otherwise stay at the backpackers.

Can thoroughly recommend the Prahran Village Guest House, just near Chapel St. Set up a bit like a B&B and right next door to a pub with beer garden - hooray! We went there over Christmas and were about the second customers, being an old building recently renovated. It is run by a couple of gay fellas (not that there's anything wrong with that) who are only too happy to bend over backwards for you.
Honestly though , it was absolutely brilliant - we found it at a bargain price on wotif.com.

If thats all you are prepared to spend, sound like the back of a car for you in a secure car park or a tent.

Thanks for your kind offer, Coorong, but I barely know you, & don't want to put you & your family out.
