we have a newly acquired kitten that goes skitz at night.

dogs are easy to train as they respond to speech and actions etc

how do you try and tell a kitten not to do something and see them do it straight away afterwards!!!!!!!!

Sorry can't stand cats so I can't help with the training. You could try a pet shop/library...there are books around for most pets these days...or chuck it into google...probably plenty of forums offering advice too

Where is the cat at night ? Lock it up somewhere i.e Laundry. Make sure there is somewhere it can sleep ie basket,
leave it some toys, kitty litter in a tray and shut the door. If it still goes nuts, put it in the shed outside, and call my Dad !!

Yes, those pussies can be a lot of trouble!!

Simple-pour lighter fluid on it &, if it doesn't please you, set fire to the little bugger!

Tape its legs together and shove it in the drawer of a kitchen unit with it's head poking out.
Purchase a pack of velcro balls and have target practice.

at night its in the spare bedroom and sleeps on a double bed, and has its kitty litter tray plus food etc.......

its just around 7pmish when it starts getting a little skitzy, like a full moon with nutters

Talk to Mark Williams, he's an expert at taming Cats.

I think it involves opening your mouth in the week before you meet the Cat and then do nothing and fall over once you've got the Cat in front of you.

You lot are bloody awful...

Simple, cats are nocturnal creatures. So try and keep it up as much as you can while you're at home and stick it in the laundry at night with a nice bed and plenty to play with, just make sure its not noisy so it doesn't keep you up.

If it starts to meow...ignore it, otherwise if you jump every time it meows, the cat will use it as a attention tool.

Keep a water pistol handy for when it pee's where its not supposed to or is being destructive, a quick squirt on the nose a few time will stop that...

The bad news is that Cats still go skitzo even when they grow up. These animals are totally insane. My Cat sometimes goes feral and streaks about the house at a rapid rate. Next time you want to get a Cat go to death row and grab one that is about ten to eighteen months old. Kittens are a pain in the ar5e. All the best.

Tie a footy sock around its waist. Not too tight.

This will paralyse the hind legs and stop any skitzo behaviour.

When we bought our newest kitten, we kept it shut in our ensuite at night when it was relaly little, otherwise it would just run over the bed and try and bite our faces while we sleep. It would cry for a while then finally go to sleep. Used to wake up about 4 in the morning and go through the whole process.

If its doing something anooying like pricking your couches then keep a water sprayer with you and spray it when it does it. Make sure it knows straight away that its wrong otherwise it wont know what its being told off for.

Time is the main thing. You have to ride out the first 6 months of them being psychos. They calm down a bit after about 6 months.

FWIW the link I posted at the end of mine is genuine...some sort of cat adoption charity with advice on training...might be Canadian but thats what Yahoo came back with and I'm sure cats are just as horrid the world over.

Our Siamese comes when called, leaves the room when told to, and jumps on your lap when you look at it and pat your lap. We basically applied the same training techniques we did to the Irish Wolfhound we had until he died recently - except we could pick the cat up to restrain it instead of needing a slip collar.

The best way to settle a cat is cuddle it and stroke it - once the purring reflex sets in they don't run around.
I agree with the advice about nights - ours gets locked in a bathroom, with food, water, and toys, and the squawks and sqeals are ignored and soon stop

It was cute to see the 6Kg cat curled up against the stomach of the 80Kg dog when they both had a nap.

The young of all species are much the same - they need affection, clear limits, and a gentle firm hand.

i was actually being genuine and i did realise there would be a bit of the pi55 takin etc on here with a topic like this.

but there are some very handy hints in there. we have done the water bottle trick previously so maybe its time to get that back out.

the aniMAL sleeps on a double bed and has everythin it needs in its bedroom.
