Dating and SMS

Postby felicity shagwell » Fri Feb 17, 2006 10:21 pm

I am of the opinion that a date should never be arranged by SMS...

I think it's lame and I think dates should always be arranged face to face or voice to voice. Nothing wrong with a friendly SMS every now and then but when it comes to asking someone out I believe that a person needs to put in that little bit of effort and make the call.

Would love to know what others think and what you have experienced...

Nonsense. God invented mobile phones, so as to rid guys of the arduous task of having to talk to women, thus freeing up time in the man's life for important persuits, such as drinking, sport & male bonding. If God wanted us to ring women for dates, then he would've... well there's nothing to suggest that he wants us to ring them, so SMS away men!

Exactly. If a chick isn't important enough in comparison to those "important pursuits" (note spelling) for a guy to call, then chances are she won't bother taking it any further. Am I right? Chicks can be just as pathetic in doing it to guys as well. Has the SMS date request ever worked for anyone?

At the rate you blokes are going with your typos and spelling mistakes, I think SMS is going to portray you as being less intelligent. Go for the phone call.

Seriously, I'm a blithering idiot on the phone but I can easily type out a 1000 word essay on a forum or by SMS.

I for one would love to ask that speshal somebody out on a date but - 1. I dont have her phone number, 2. she wont give it to me and 3. she would flatly refuse to go out anywhere with me anyway, so why would I bother? I could'nt send her an sms as this relates back to no. 1.
Its that same old feeling of being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Yes, I have picked a random number in my head in the past and hoped for the best but all I got on the other end was some angry chick telling me to bog off.
I also had the unpleasant experience of having a long distance relationship being kept going by frequent sms-ing. I'm sure everyone who reads this will agree that when typing on your phone or computer, it's easy for the other person/people to take what you are saying the wrong way.
I did so much sms-ing in the past that it ruined the actual 'real' time I had with that speshal someone I used to have.
I will never in the future use this form of contact to ask a chick out nor would I use it as a source of contact with her either.

What is even worst is getting a text message while at work saying that your girlfriend is leaving you, when you get home the house is guttered.
Go the phone call and never text when drunk as it never really spells a word.

SMS is lazy. Do the right thing, walk to the kitchen so you can ask her in person.

The SMS is great.... It saves guys like me who have a stutter and find it hard to ask girls out.

At least the SMS ask out is not as bad as the SMS Break up.

The Break up needs to be done face to face... No SMS can be used there.

SMS break up is disgraceful, it's not on. Should be 20 years-life for the 1st offence...
