I reakon this is a really valid discussion, in fact I really want some advice as I'll be a dad for the first time this year. Round 14 to be exact - shame we don't have a bye.

Without getting too personal (I'm not going to start a poll or anything) but I thought it was fairly common and I thought I'd be in favour when the time came. But the more I talk to people and read about it, it appears it is a bit more frowned upon these days.
To snip or not to snip???

It is a valid discussion, fortunately for me because I had a daughter I was not faced with this decision. When I was growing up generally whistles belonged to kids from poor families as helmets were an extra, if you get my meaning

Agreed that its a valid discussion and something I/we had to seriously consider when young Matty was born.
I'm a helmet but we left him as a whistle, there's just no need for it and it puts babies through unnecessary pain.
If they want to get done when they're older so be it.
Having said that I'm supposed to be able to teach him how to clean it and have no idea!
Dad: Give it a scrub under the skin son!
Son: How Dad?
Dad: No idea son, just get in there and do it!

Plus whistles look bigger, that's what I tell Mrs Wedgie when she keeps asking why my helmet is so small! :P

Yeah I know, too much info!

Dasher would be hysterical if he saw this... He'd be burning down buildings from one side of Adelaide to the other... Whilst I didn't agree with the topice 1st time round, I do sympathise with him now, considering he fought like a sabre toothed tiger, to stop it's demise....

Elaine: Yeah.

Jerry: No.. you?

Jerry: What'd you think?

Jerry: Not good?

Elaine: No, had no face, no personality, very dull.
It was like a martian.
But hey, that's me.

Jerry: So what'd you think?

George: I got used to it.

Don 't do it ZZ. Those helmets are like tropical rainforests, once there gone, they're gone. There's no growing them back!
Don't let Seinfeld and the facist, peer-group mind control sway your judgment. It is time we made a stand!

LOL i had a mate who had to have it 'done' coz it hurt him during sex with the mrs...he was in pain for months and wished he still had it...he gets phantom feelings and sometimes it hurts him when he gets ahem...excited ;)...he was 23/24 when he had it done...so if you are thinking about getting it done for your kids...its one way or the other coz pain happens later on too ;)

Some food for thought:

My partner was discharged from hospital a few weeks before our newborn daughter. Consequently she had to commute to the hospital each day in order to breastfeed etc, and spent much of her days in the nursery. On one of these days, a bloke was admitted to the room. He took one of the male babies into a small adjoining room. On asking what was going on, my partner was told "you don't want to know".

The screams which subsequently emanated from the room reduced her to tears.

She is now of the opinion that anyone who would have their kid circumcised ought to be prepared to stand within earshot when the operation takes place.

See, that's the best argument and the one that i'll probably go with.

But still one nagging thought remains...I don't remember the knife and I'm really glad my parents made that decision.
Freaking ugly things if you ask me.

I'm of the exact same opinion/circumstance but I still think we know a lot more about it these days and it seems completely uneccesary.
I honestly don't think it'll be too far down the track when "helmets" (despite them being the best looking of the 2 ugly beasts) will be looked upon as freaks or Jews.

Let's face it, its basically a cosmetic issue only these days, its not as though we're going to give babies nose jobs or get their ears tucked just because they won't remember the pain when they're older.

A gun without a holster, looks the same as a gun with a holster, when they're both ready to shoot

Whoever the pathetic individual was who previously deleted this topic you have just shown that you were abusing the your moderatory power. You were deleting because you didn't like me and not because you didn't like the topic. Admitedly you would also look like a dickhead if it was the topic you disapproved of and not me because the topic is perfecly legitimate.
