TERMITES!

Postby Punk Rooster » Tue Nov 01, 2005 9:40 pm

I've just spent the last half hour out in the back yard. Sitting on the 'puter, I noticed a small insect crawling around- an "alate", so I went outside, and sure enough, there were thousands swarming around the light at the back door. Alates, are reproductive termites. In warm, humid, muggy conditions, such as tonight, termite nests release thousands of alates to go and start new colonies. Why all this babble you ask? Because I can handle all your termite & general pest enquiries! Don't let termites destroy your home! PM me for any info/quotes etc...

lifted this while I was there...

Winged reproductives or alates are the future kings and queens of new nests. They have a well developed cuticle, compound eyes, and two pairs of usually dark brown elongated membranous wings of equal length. Alates disperse in large numbers from mature colonies, usually in warm humid weather. They are weak fliers and quickly land and drop their wings. The females release a scent (pheromone) to attract a male with which to establish a nest. Only a small percentage are successful in establishing new colonies. It takes several years of development before a nest can do significant damage. Alates are only produced in well-established, mature nests. During their dispersal flight, alates commonly land on the roofs of buildings and move inside. This is not a matter for concern since they must first establish a nest in the ground. However, alates seen emanating very close to the house suggest a nest is nearby and a pest control operator should be contacted.

Great, we have adverts already, I should charge ya Punky!

In all seriousness as Punky well knows I've gone through an ordeal this year of having walls demolished because of termites.
If you own a home make sure you get a pro in to check out your place every year, it'll save you money in the long run, I know as I've gone through about 7 grand this year because of the little bastards!

Having lived in a house that was invaded by termites I have seen the pro's and con's of these termite/pest controllers.
It's a bit of a scam from what I can tell but I've found the company Bio-Pest to be the cheapest as well as reliable and they guarentee their work.
My advice is to shop around and not get "sucked" in by unscrupulous salespeople trying to use scare tactics so that they meet their budgets etc.
Goodluck Mr. Punk, nice picture.

Goodluck Mr. Punk, you have a great future.

Thanks for the kind endorsement "Jerry", but out of fairness to the industry, we can't advertise companies on here, can we?

I thought this thread was about Centrals or Swans 'fans' coming out of the woodwork.

Actually used Adelaide Pest today, to safeguard on an extension we are doing at home.

What an incompetent bunch of clowns! Turned up at the wrong time and told me they had the wrong spray. Followed that up with turning up again later in the day and disappearing without doing the job. Finally returned with the same spray they had first thing in the morning. If we weren't relying on having it done today (so work can continue over the weekend) we would have cancelled and gone elsewhere.

Frustrating as buggery.

I will look into this, provided you PM me a few details... Things don't always go smoothly, sometimes it can be people not knowing the right questions to ask, and therefore the outcome they have pictured doesn't eventuate. Also mistakes can happen, yet this doesn't neccessarily mean that the job doesn't get done correctly. The Pre-treat department handles a lot of calls per day- from the backyarder to major builders. It stands to reason, that if 50 people try to book for 9 am, then 45 people will be disappointed etc... Again, provided me with a few details privately, and I'll look into it.
