Would go overseas for a while but the girlfriend wont let me go without her and she has no leave (that makes me sad too).
Might have to consider looking for a job soon. :(

Grow some balls and just go!

Go adventure travelling, like camping (with armed Rangers) at a waterhole in Kruger National Park.
Odds are any chick will not hesitate to suggest you do it alone.

My wife didn't want to go to Borneo with me when I arranged to stay in a long house in an Iban village in the highlands of Sarawak, once I'd told her the windows were just holes in the walls and the geckos hunt the cockroaches running across the ceiling...

that sucks, condolences

one of my good mates is just a little younger has just had surgery. Prognosis is good but yeah, certainly wasnt something I was thinking about at my age. I am still in the midset of grandparents dying (2/4 still going), not thinking about my mates' or my own mortality

Exactly.

Less than 12 months from Diagnosis. Absolute cruelty.

Hey Mattee, I wasn't able to make the funeral today but I knew you'd be over, was thinking of you. It's been hard to comprehend he's just not here anymore, but the footy club, as they do, have been amazing for fundraising and bringing everyone together to grieve as one. Cheers WCP- yeah we made the trek on Monday and came home last night.

Sad day but that footy club community is something else. Amazing turnout. Wife and kids left behind will have no lack of support over the coming years with such a tight knit club.

I believe a planned fundraiser for this Saturday night is still going ahead, hope they can make another small fortune to help out the family.

Dont think I have ever cried hearing the Tigerland song before.

Great man. Great memories.

We were sitting on our balcony last night and it was about 10:30 when we seen a couple walking the streets and opened the lid to a bin across the road, it was a general waste bin and the chick leaned into it a bit had a look and then proceeded to move on, we weren't sure if she took anything out of it but she was carrying a plastic bag with stuff in it.

They disappeared for about 10 minutes and then walked past our house and had a quick peek in the neighbours recycle bin which had been left out.

Given that bin day was Monday they had picked the wrong night to go rummaging so we ended feeling a bit shit thinking that they were looking for food, they didn't appear to be feral but there was no real other explanation, we would've fetched them some food from our pantry and kitchen if this was the case.

It's a horrible thought that some people have to live that way in today's society.

Recycle bin? 10c cans mate.

And, whilst having some empathy for them is a great trait to have as a human, good for you and I'd be the same, I myself would like to know more about how they got to that point before I handed over supplies.

At work we have a guy who jumps in our big bins twice a week looking for cans and bottles

He gets a couple of hundred dollars a week doing it, supplements his pension

I know a couple of guys who have gone Freegan...

Dumpster diving to get food etc, both work, have houses but their reasoning is that the food (and other stuff that is thrown out by Woolies, Coles etc) is still good and better than going to the land fill...

Couldn't do it myself.. .

Freegan? LOL. Hopefully they're not next to me at a doctors surgery one day when salmonella is falling out of them.

The bag didn't sound like cans, she looked in the general waste bin, that's why I thought foodish.

A few packs of noodles or cans of spaghetti wouldn't have hurt. We wouldn't have invited them inside or given them some t-bones, we did feel bad for not asking them what they were doing.
The missus said we should stash out and watch what they were doing, I wanted to stay out to make sure they weren't entering yards or going near cars.

Yeah, common practice, I'd heard of it being a regular thing at the Arnotts factory in Regency years back.

What if they spent their government funded pension on ice? Not saying they do, but that's why I'd want to know more about them before handing over food.

BTW, what's your address? I'm doing a BBQ tonight and a couple of T-bones would be perfect!

PS - Ask them what they're doing, the answer to my first point might lie therein. :D

How much food do places like Coles throw out? Wouldn't have thought too much as they mark them down

It's probably the sad truth, it was one of those occasions where you wished that you could have the time over again and ask questions, half of me wanted to see if they were about to commit a crime and half was just intrigued, it was only our post discussion on the matter that thought food could've been the motive.

I'd only just ripped the scab off my newfound favourite red so I wasn't keen on traveling downstairs to chase them up for a quiz, plus it was my turn for next round.

Stick your head in the bin across the road first and we'll talk t-bone ;)

Shitloads at a guess, their deli stuff doesn't seem to last as long as pre-packed stuff and their display cabinets are always full.
