- School banking, usually with the (then) Savings Bank of SA. Found my old school passbook a few years back, had it reactivated and bought a set of golf clubs with the proceeds. Other local financial institutions included Adelaide Permanent Building Society (Gawler Place, across the road from Allan's) and Co-Op.
- Eudunda's in the country, Tom The Cheap locally
- Local TV personalities appearing at the Royal Show. For a while, the Ten people would appear in their cafe, which was next to Centennial Hall. One year, Channel 7 had the State Affair crew, and they were selling reasonable large plastic model helicopters. Wish I had kept mine intact.
- Centennial Hall housing the old gentleman who used to do cut out silhouettes of people in his little stall next to the stage at the Show
- The Motor Pavillion at the Show, housed in what is now Showbag Hall, and the car dealers selling scale models of that year's new models. Datsun were the most common of these, and many of them are very rare nowadays - my uncle has a stack still in their boxes. The STA also released cardboard models of the (then) new Volvo buses, with the air vents on top.
- The Choc Wedge "Hit 'em for six" promotion, where you could win a free Choc Wedge, or it would have a number of runs printed on the stick. Once you saved up to 100 runs, you could mail in for a prize draw.
- When TAB's weren't computer operated, and punters had to read out their bet to the operator. I was obviously far too young to do it, but remember when the computer systems first appeared, and there were TV promotions for months about it.
- "2166111, Newsmart, Easy, Newsmart, Easy."..."I'm a Rocca Brothers rebel, from head to toe...I'm a Rocca Brothers rebel, I'm saving dough..."
- The Kenmax Mark of The Day/Goal Of The Day on the SANFL telecasts.
- When each drive-in hosted Trash And Treasure markets on Sunday mornings. Mum and Dad sold their own creation there for a while, SANFL "Club Grubs" - about 60cm long, similar to scarves, but filled with foam, and two eyes and a mouth on them, with pipe cleaners for feelers. A number of the SANFL clubs bought some from her to sell at the clubs - remember driving out to Central District one day where Mum met Kris Grant to sell some (this would have been probably in his first or second year or so of his time there).
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...
