Something similar but in the days before photocopiers, does anyone remember that purple type of carbon copying which really stank when you copied stuff?

I luuuuurved that smell  Luckily, I was teachers pet back in the day, so I was the lucky one who got to go and collect any handouts done in this fashion and I just sniffed them all the way back to the classroom

I just cant remember what it was called :(

Well, that suddenly explains a lot nowadays  ;)

The machines were called mimeographs, but also can't remember what the ink was called for the life of me. Used to have these all through primary school though. Our teachers would prepare tests on them, to supplement the old "Speed And Accuracy" arithmetic tests.

I remember in early 90's ringing a certain phone number to get a Sheffield Shield score,a bit easier these days getting a score through a dedicated cricket website or a site such as this.

At least in those days though ch9 would televise Sheffield Shield from time to time.

Wearing stubbies and a bonds t-shirt as school uniform. :D

For those of us with teenagers, imagine sending them to school in that kit now...

Must...resist...the...first....comment...to...mind :D

We used to have "Speed and Accuracy" tests - a A5 booklet with pages of questions in them, 10 questions per line and at random times, the teacher would suddenly announce "Speed and Accuracy" and the challenge was on to a) find the booklet among the stuff in the desk and then b) get as many right inside the one minute time period.

It was amazing how much could be stored in those desks - the flip top wooden desks. Equally amazing was how often old food would find its way in there until the end of term.

Whenever we went to my uncle's for a bbq there was always one of his truckie mates that would sit there in his stubbies with his clangers hanging out the side.

Was his name Russell? Might have been my Uncle. Never liked going to Uncle Russell's place for a BBQ.

- School banking, usually with the (then) Savings Bank of SA. Found my old school passbook a few years back, had it reactivated and bought a set of golf clubs with the proceeds. Other local financial institutions included Adelaide Permanent Building Society (Gawler Place, across the road from Allan's) and Co-Op.

- Eudunda's in the country, Tom The Cheap locally

- Local TV personalities appearing at the Royal Show. For a while, the Ten people would appear in their cafe, which was next to Centennial Hall. One year, Channel 7 had the State Affair crew, and they were selling reasonable large plastic model helicopters. Wish I had kept mine intact.

- Centennial Hall housing the old gentleman who used to do cut out silhouettes of people in his little stall next to the stage at the Show

- The Motor Pavillion at the Show, housed in what is now Showbag Hall, and the car dealers selling scale models of that year's new models. Datsun were the most common of these, and many of them are very rare nowadays - my uncle has a stack still in their boxes. The STA also released cardboard models of the (then) new Volvo buses, with the air vents on top.

- The Choc Wedge "Hit 'em for six" promotion, where you could win a free Choc Wedge, or it would have a number of runs printed on the stick. Once you saved up to 100 runs, you could mail in for a prize draw.

- When TAB's weren't computer operated, and punters had to read out their bet to the operator. I was obviously far too young to do it, but remember when the computer systems first appeared, and there were TV promotions for months about it.

- "2166111, Newsmart, Easy, Newsmart, Easy."..."I'm a Rocca Brothers rebel, from head to toe...I'm a Rocca Brothers rebel, I'm saving dough..."

- The Kenmax Mark of The Day/Goal Of The Day on the SANFL telecasts.

- When each drive-in hosted Trash And Treasure markets on Sunday mornings. Mum and Dad sold their own creation there for a while, SANFL "Club Grubs" - about 60cm long, similar to scarves, but filled with foam, and two eyes and a mouth on them, with pipe cleaners for feelers. A number of the SANFL clubs bought some from her to sell at the clubs - remember driving out to Central District one day where Mum met Kris Grant to sell some (this would have been probably in his first or second year or so of his time there).
