Does anybody else remember in the late 70's, early 80's, Hungry Jacks or someone similar had an ad with a kid playing "The Minister For Pocket Money"? He was a local, and I remember that only a few weeks after the ad started, he was sadly killed when he was knocked off his bike. At that age, most of our class were upset with that one.

The one ad that has always stuck with me is the old "Come on Kylie... you can do it".

Kids being kids, that became a big pay-out in the school playground...

Down to the corner shop on Henley Beach Road next to the Chinese restaurant on the corner of Elston St and HB Road to see Frank and tell him to "Put the winny reds on Dads tab and here's the 20c for The News".

My Mum used to send me to the deli with a signed and dated note for her smoke order. No note no smokes was the supposed arangement with the owner. Never tested that out though.

I'd come back with a packet of Ardarth blue and a Bubble O' Bill.

For the benefit of our many comedians NO Mum didn't like Bubble O' Bills. ;)

- Lollies like Candy Tabs (1c a packet), Fags, big pink cigars, Wizz Fizz, and ice blocks like Razz

- Drinks like Tresca, TAB and when Diet Coke first started

- When you would drop off Mum and Dad's lotto entry and you would get back a carbon copy of the entry form as the ticket to rely upon.

- Getting the Royal Show week off, not just one Show Day

- When they used to stage Expo at the Showgrounds in about May or so.

Something similar but in the days before photocopiers, does anyone remember that purple type of carbon copying which really stank when you copied stuff?

I luuuuurved that smell  Luckily, I was teachers pet back in the day, so I was the lucky one who got to go and collect any handouts done in this fashion and I just sniffed them all the way back to the classroom

I just cant remember what it was called :(

I grew up in the Western Suburbs, and for a while, lived about 5 minutes walk from this park. Was a Cub, and then a Scout, at the Scout Hall that is still there now. Used to have a load of time at that park, particularly in the big hut at the top of the slippery dip in those days. Used to wander down to the swamp at the back looking for tadpoles. Couldn't think of letting a kid alone down there now, sadly.
