No, anyone who knows me knows I'm not grumpy, and if anything don't take life as seriously as many think I should.
I always said, even in my teens, that I liked to have fun, but wanted to know what I was doing and remember it afterwards. Being actually drunk interferes with that.
I've been to 3 Christmas functions in the last week and have 2 more to go to later in the month. [I haven't committed December yet.]

I just don't understand why somebody would want to got out and deliberately damage their brain, liver, and cardiac muscles, and thus shorten their life and enjoyment of life.

Oh yes, they're the ones that are hurting alright.

Why would anyone want to get drunk?
I thought that was an unpleasant and undesirable side effect of enjoying a few drinks, which interfered with your ability to do what you wanted to do anyway...

I agree Sibe, maybe it's a young fella thing, I love a drink but if I had my way I'd love to not get drunk. If I know I'm going to have a heavy day on the turps I'll cook myself un a big steak with some vegies and eggs in the morning to slow the alcohol affect down, unfortunately I'll go through a carton of beer or a bottle of bourbon in one sitting.

Come on mate, the UDL vodka cans are a cheap refreshing alternative on a hot day, I'm happy enough for anyone to come and call me a girl if they are offended.
Vodka, heaps of ice, topped up with Berri Fruit Juice's Tropical Sensation is quite possibly the nicest drink I've tasted.
Images are over-rated, it's my money and my taste buds.

Ha, top post!

I know back in my 20's when my mates and I were on our 3-5th day of drinking, we'd usually hit Vodka + Fruita, or 2 Dogs + Vodka in a Pint Glass with shed loads of ice.

We didn't drink much beer back in those days but, was pretty much always whiskey.

Question.

Why is it necessary to drink during gatherings? I used to drink because that was just what we did, but why?

Is it necessary to have to relax/lose your inhibitions through drinking to enjoy yourself with friends?

Of course it's not, so why does everyone drink?

Good question NG but it's fair to say I'm the last bloke capable of answering that question today.

Although, I dont think anyone deliberately sets out to get drunk ( Im sure some do ) but getting drunk is just a by-product of consuming the 15 or 16 beers that I had last night. Perhaps the 3 or 4 JD's as a little night cap might have been the killer...

No - and I don't NG...lol.
My friends know I don't - they still love me

I remember drinking in excess a bit in my late teens.
Once kids came along I stopped drinking altogether - and then I suppose I became 'designated driver' - and I now I just don't drink - I do like a drink perhaps once a year if that - hate 'throwing up' so always will stop before I get to that stage...lol.

Might have something to do with the fact that my step-father was an alcoholic that I made an unconscious decission not to drink while the kids were growing up - I have no idea really :-??
You get what you give....

I don't drink any more - I'm probably not as entertaining for other people as I used to be but at least I'm not making a dick out of myself. I was getting to the stage where I couldn't do it any more. The only drink I've had in the last six weeks was at a wine tour for a mate's birthday - I slurred to Mr McSpaz, who picked me up afterwards, 'Hey babe, there was a rosemary bush at the last winery and I picked you a couple of sprigs' because he really likes rosemary. Turned out it was actually a lavender bush and I pulled up at least half of it, judging by the contents of my handbag.  And the owner of the winery was watching me do it, according to my mate. Had a fantastic time but it was definitely a one-off.
Hey Goose, ya big stud! Take me to bed or lose me for ever.
