I can't ever afford one now, as it would no longer be tax deductible. Maybe a small Chopper... ;)

That's one reason I moved back to Adelaide in my retirement.
Here, close to the CBD, I can economise on such expenses and afford to live on my meagre share dividends and bank interest.
[About $44K this financial year. I need interest rates to go up. :( ]

Psyber, I hope the interest rates go up for you too. I'm sure the decisions you've made through your life and the hard work being a doctor etc has paid off for you now in your later years.... good for you (seriously) ...... my mum however has to live on just over 15 k a year being a pensioner who unfortunately had no super upon retirement (due to a number of reasons) ... but she no complain .... they're the people I truly feel sorry for ... worked hard their whole lives and now living on struggle street on a fixed income ....
RIP my DH 1964 - 2009 - You were one of the best and I miss you

Getting the front tyres replaced on the car only to realise the back ones are all baldy too. I do not know how I managed to baldify them all in just under a year. :(

All this money to brag about and nothing better to do than log into here every morning of ya life...........sad.
RW, I'm not a morning person and DST has made it worse lately.
So, I check this stuff out while I eat breakfast, and then read the news on line until I wake up fully. I have enough to do once I get going.
I tended to work from 10am till about 6pm or so in my career, which suited me, and accommodated people who needed to be seen after their work.
I guess to some extent I've continued the routine since it suits my diurnal patterns.

Sorry if I upset anyone with the word "meagre" - I was thinking it was not a large return on the amount of capital tied up in the investments, and certainly wouldn't fund the Lear Jet the original joke from CP was about. [Such is the business world at present that the bank interest on cash is returning more than the shares at this stage as a percentage of capital.]

Thanks Lunchie, for your gentler response. In responding to CP I hadn't anticipated the response [resentment?] I got from some.
I certainly hadn't intended to "brag" - indeed I didn't even see it as being an amount worth bragging about.
[Most of my current circle of friends since I returned to Adelaide are lawyers and earning 6 figures.]

I am aware that I am a bit of a "nerd" and tend not to anticipate people's reactions, unless actively thinking about it.
That leads me tend to state facts without considering how people may interpret my intent.
[At work I made to effort to focus on these things, and this focus and objectivity sometimes enabled me to pick up things others had missed.]

Your point is taken. My parents lived on the pension and a very small Super. supplement from my father's time in the Railways.
We lived in a run down rented house until my parents were able to buy a house in their late 40s, which Dad paid off with a Super lump sum on retirement.

HR...

i just got pulled aside and slapped on the wrist because, having a laugh with our temp receptionist, i called her a Ranga...

mentioned it to her afterwards and she burst out laughing!

everything these days is so precious!!! 'it may have offended someone'

I better just shut up if that's the case...
I am not talking to you for 3 minutes because you punched me in the head and it hurt and that was not okay for you to do

You might just have to talk at work in complete monosylable monotone, and get all your "other" talk out of your system on here  make sure no one at work refers to your online name/nickname either, they would probably get fired

I still remember my dickhead manager from Subway telling me not to use the phrase 'I reckon' because the upper-class people that apparently frequented Subway would get offended. I felt like telling him that the way he always eyed off my mum when she came to pick me up from work offended ME, but sadly I was far less outspoken in those days. :(

Dutchy you have it wrong, 6am flights are the best as now you have the whole day to do whatever. Unless of course that means more flying.
I'm with Dutchy.
I refuse to even try - last time I was needed to give evidence in court in Qld I told them they'd have to fly me up the evening before.
I'm having trouble even getting out of bed before 8.30am, since DST started.

Unfortuantely due to a family funeral I couldnt fly out Wed night, that was the original plan. Its a mental thing more than anything, knowing you need to be up at 4am you never sleep well

Funny how you have to be up at 4am to go to the airport you struggle to sleep but if you're off with some mates to play golf in the country somewhere you sleep like a baby...

Service Stations which are now 'coffee shops' requiring you to wait in line twenty minutes to pay for your petrol purchase.

I wish more servo's adopted the 'Pay at the Pump' system Mobil had before On The Run took them over - was great pull up, swipe card, fill up, and you're on your way.

Pity the only one's doing it now are Woolies, and only if you have a Woolies credit card.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

hmmmmm 3 tyres on my car have been there since new and the car is now almost 3 years old and 30,000 km. Only one I have had to replace was an unrepairable puncture at about 20,000. Only 1 rotation too :)
