I was that most irritating type of teenager: the "nerd" who wasn't ugly and weedy, and who could succeed at sport when he bothered to but tended to skip practice to do Chemistry experiments instead.
You are brilliant at everything. Except for posting in relevant threads.

Psyb, are you brilliant at self defence too? by the sound of it you would have needed it at school or you would've got your butt kicked!!! ;)
1. REB, I said "succeed", I never claim to be "brilliant". Competence is always my aim, then I move on to something new.
2. NG, not "brilliant" at self-defence, but again competent. [I'd learned Judo.] I also attended Wrestling classes at secondary school - we had a Yank exchange teacher.
3. Yes REB a somewhat irrelevant post - although "irreverent" may be more apt - this one was boring and needed a stir. Kiddies have "heroes".

Ha ha. Competency does mean brilliance for me. I'm shit at everything and therefore much more lovebale. ;)

I actually agree with you about point 3, most of my heros hung up their boots years ago. My true hero is my Grandfather who survived a Japanese POW camp and my father who worked decades in jobs he hated so I could have a decent childhood when he would much rather be onstage playing his guitar.

I chose feared over lovable, having grown up in Bowden in the 1950s when all the kids carried knives.
I feel the same about my father for the same reason - he played Cornet, Trumpet, and Trombone.
I still have the Cornet - he'd sold the others of necessity over the years, once his asthma got worse and he could no longer play them.
