I dont care if it's a short time thing or to drop off a load of whatever they are delivering/pick something big or heavy up, but for long periods and simple jobs the concept of the witches hats going out implies "dont give us a ticket for doing this - I cant be bothered finding a park, paying for a park or losing my park when I go to the shop for lunch". As I said, it's a new thing that is spreading far and wide very quickly. Why has this only just started happening recently - has laziness crept in, is it pressure from the boss to find time shortcuts, sick of parking fines for overstaying loading zones when you pay extra rego fees to get the extra 30 minutes - what is it? What is different now to the way things were before the witches hats became stock and trade?
The same thing goes for media vehicles - "this is a Channel x vehicle, here to get a story. We'll drive and park where we like thanks." Or unmarked cop cars (kitted or fleet) with the old "log book on the dash" routine and no urgency about their appointment/visit.
Time is money.
Certainly some people push the witchety hat situation, but the majority have legitamate reasons.
Imagine walking back to a carpark for one extra screw that was impossible to foresee.
Tradies are problem solvers, and if job doesn't always go to plan, we need to access our cars.
If you were going to a BBQ in a park and were providing the food, bbq, table & chairs I'm sure you would do everything in your power to park as close as possible to the eating area.
Then add to that factor $$$ and i'm sure you can show abit more tolerance.
BUT... to the tradies out there just popping in for maintenance, lunch, quotes etc... go find a park.
