Aish

There was a reason for no first name. I was 7 at the time, and there was every chance he would go to the VFL at that time. Mum thought that, if he did, she would cut of the first half of the 8, sew a 4 in front of it and bingo - a duffle coat with Andrew Aish on the back.

Could you imagine a duffle coat today

No, Andrew and Michael played together for some years - and yes, that's what I meant with different numbers :) . Andrew wore 43, so using Mum's scheme from above would have given an ode to Aish - just the other one

Ah yes Granny Mays....but do you remember Granny May's Ice Cream Parlour ?? They were a chain of stores that sold different flavoured ice creams in cones. There was one on Unley Road and another on Anzac Highway. Must have been others but they are the two I remember.

I also won't forget travelling there on the old Hyrdoflite from North Haven, nor the original Philanderer.

That was also back in the days when tourists could be trusted to walk by themselves among the seals on Seal Bay - before a tiny minority of idiots, unable to understand the words "No closer than 30 feet" eventually forced the hand of the rangers, who then had to escort everyone in groups. I never breached the distance myself, but was there one day when someone did - and be assured, a seal can move mighty quick TOWARD someone when they need to :)

I was born and bred on KI CK O:)

My grandmother used to be the one sealing those 'plastic bags' of milk - and I remember going out to the dairy with her a couple of times.
Thanks for the memory - Awesome - I forgot all about it till you just mentioned it :D

We used to walk along seal bay as kids - but were s*** scared of the seals because we knew that they could charge at you as quick as look at you - scary things !!! ...lol.

Flinders Chase much the same has changed beyond recognition.
Used to be able to go down there and walk amongst the Kangaroos and emus etc, etc - now it's just basically a building, spot the Kangaroo if you can :(

Mr McSpaz was born and bred in Kingscote. When we went to KI this year - my first time there since I was two - he had a story for absolutely everything and every place and then he would explain how it had changed since he was a kid... Fascinating stuff.

- Records that were picture discs. Have a few in my collection still

- Going to any of the number of drive-ins that used to be all over Adelaide. Saw "The Never Ending Story" at the Seaton, and as a little tacker, used to live quite close to the Blueline at West Beach. Just the Mainline at Gepps Cross survives now, but reckon there were around 6-7 in the metro area when I was a kid (was one across the road from Centennial Park cemetery, plus the three above, the Valleyline at St Agnes - can't remember the rest, though).

- When bus tickets were different colours according to their price. Have a few pads of the old paper ones at home somewhere that I bought from a transport museum years ago.

- Kanga Cricket, T-ball at school

- The yearly Patsy Biscoe album

- When a school lunch could be bought for a dollar and you'd still get some mixed lollies in it. Our primary school did crumbed sausages for 20 cents. Would never see that now.

- Catching a bus that went through Kirkcaldy.

Had a great chat the other day with someone who used to work closely with Bob Pucetti on the Mid-Dawn show in the 80's here in Adelaide. Television was very different back then in a range of ways :) ;)

Speaking of Adelaide made television, this one has been plaguing me for years. There was a kids show called "Ready Set Go" that used to be on Seven in the mornings, and produced in Adelaide. The presenters were Colin Pearce and a lady called Maryann, but can't remember her surname. The main character was a puppet mouse. For the life of me, I cannot remember the name of the mouse. My grandmother, who normally has a very good memory for this sort of thing, knows the show and the mouse but also can't think of its name....anybody out there know it?

Took the boys to the Drive in last night to see Kung Fu Panda 2, used the $10 voucher in the paper, with which we got the 4 of us into the Drive in plus supposedly 1 free Popcorn, we ended up getting 3 free popcorns for the $10 entry fee.... Bargain...

There was also one in Hillbank just of Main North Road...

I remember the drive-in at Port Elliott...

World Finest Chocolates. Long chocolate bars with almonds divided into different size pieces. Used to have them when in Cubs, but haven't seen them for years. Can still remember the smell of getting a full new box. Were they only done by the Scouts? Were they specific to Adelaide? Are they still available for fundraising, get a bit sick of the same old Cadbury fundraisers.

Some of the others

Elizabeth - now the suburb of Hillbank
Hollywood (Salisbury Downs) - now Hollywood Plaza but the shell of the screen remains with a Hollywood sign attached to it

There was also a Greater Union twin drive in on Oaklands Road, next to the bus depot. I believe it was closed when the Marion Megaplex opened and is now a housing estate.
