unfortunately we don't have the geography to be able to just build dams anywhere to catch water.

I know it's only relatively small scale but it all helps, Salisbury Council some time ago and now a lot of golf courses are putting in wet lands to capture, naturally filter the storm water, store it and use it for irrigation of parks and golf courses, that is all water that would have ran out to sea complete with all of the pollutants that were picked up on the way.

4.1 mm in my gauge when I got home, not that much at work though. My new rain water tank finally has enough water to be able to turn the taps on and get something out.

That was probably very isolated, where I live in Adelaide we tend to get more than a lot of other Adelaide suburbs, I empty my gauge first thing in the morning, so far this year I have taken out

Jan 12th, 0.3 mm
Jan 13th, 0.1mm
Jan 14th, 9.1mm
Feb 1st, 5.3mm

Tomorrow I will take out 4.1mm if we don't get any more overnight, that's a grand total of 19.9mm in 56 days, or 71 days if you count the last 15 days of 2012 with no rainfall

Port hedland hasn't had that much rain yet. Only 80mm over 3 days. It will be the 10m tide that floods them.

Bully, the only thing people are asking for is water that falls in a catchment area be allowed to travel through the full length of that catchment as nature intended, most of the other crap you are suggesting is your words, not posters living in SA, about time you got over your QLD is mightier and more dererving than everyone syndrome

and you arent doing the same thing???? of course not
I think you will also find, there has been posts on this topic about building water pipes from northern australia (NO WHERE NEAR THE MURRAY CATCHMENTS) about helping SA. So yeah.............

I love my home state, but due to the attitude of most down there, this is the reason a lot of things dont happen or get off the ground, too much complaining and talk, and no action

I did mention the pipeline from WA was a concept that had been discussed in the past but was found to be too expensive, I haven't said it should happen, just let a fair percentage of what falls in a catchment flow the full length of that catchment (that goes for all states, SA included

The rivers below them, like the Murray below NSW and Vic storages, also require flows to maintain their ecological health.

It may have something to do with the fact when QLD gets 1200mm rainfall per year compared to Adelaide 500mm.

I guess we could all build on a sub-tropical, high-risk flood plain area and complain and cry to the rest of Australia when we get flooded cos we're not willing to fork out forflood cover in our home and contents insurance. Or we can suggest ways to divert and store water more appropriately that would minimise the flood risk to QLD and benefit communities down stream in the Murray.
