Umm European places take the top 6 and can potentially be top 8 spots. Spurs are in europe currently mate and have been the last few years and Everton have spent their fare share of time in Europe as well. The bottom 3 go down but for the majority of the season the whole bottom half of the table are under threat of going down.

Crystal Palace have been up and down in the division for the last 5 seasons so they have had plenty to play for, relegation, promotion from the championship etc.

You probably picked the worse 3 teams to say they haven't had games to play for.

Take last years table the top 7 sides made it to europe 8th and 9th only finished two games out of the european spots.

At the other end of the table the 3 teams got relegated and from 14th down were within a couple of games of being relegated plus 13th placed WBA were in the relegation scrap all year. Crystal Palace finished 10th but were in the relegation for a fair portion of the year, changed managers and then flew home to steal 10th spot.

West Ham finished 12th but were 4th at Christmas.

Everton were the only team that really had an uneventful middle of the road year but even they played in the Europa league last season.

Now take a look in the AFL this year.

Brisbane, St Kilda, Melbourne, Carlton, Essendon were never playing for anything other than draft picks this season.
Gold Coast had promise but that was dashed in the first four weeks and have had 20 rounds of playing for nothing.

That's all very interesting. Far more interesting than the EPL!

Of the teams playing in Europe, any of them do anything much good? Win anything of note?

Anyway, we know there's 4 teams who have won it since 1995 and there's 4 teams that can win it this year. How terribly exciting.

Only 4 can ever win it in the AFL, teams from the top 4 and generally there is a couple of clear standouts amongst them as well.

Interestingly over the last 7 years the AFL has had a combination of 6 teams make the GF in that period while in the EPL they have had a combination of 5 teams finish first and second in that same period. Not alot different really.

7 years is a small sample.

The 20 year picture is probably the best indicator.

Agree but times are changing and I think the last 7 years are a better indicator of the direction the game is heading

I believe modern technology and the acces everyone has to it is helping to close the gap.

While i think the AFL is now set up so we will see this happening alot more often where a 5 year period will have the same 4 sides dominating, they will then drop off while it will be another block of 4 teams dominating.\

In simplified terms i think every year in the EPL there is probably 13-14 teams who are playing for something, title, Champions League, Europa, surving relegation while in the AFL there is generally never more than 4 maybe 5 realistic sides that could actually win anything.

One difference is the bottom of the table games in the EPL are often massive because teams have to win to survive, no chance of tanking because no draft and the chance of dropping out of the division looms large. Many times the relegation battle isnt settled til the last day so teams are pushing hard all year.

The seller got back to me, - today (told me it was no longer available).
