Patsy Biscoe singing "Puff the Magic Dragon" on Fat Cat and Friends

Couldn't sing that song to a kid anymore but back then we didn't know any different. I just thought it was a song about a dragon :-??

Lyrics can be found here so make up your own minds as to its meaning.

Personally, I reckon rumours of alleged references to the wakky bakky are a load of old cobblers and have always been denied by its writers.

can't see how it is a problem :? it's like when it came out that if you played the mr. ed song backwards it had satanic sentences or something like that....i think someones says something & the power of suggestion has some believing it & it travels like fire when there is no truth in it whatsoever (imho)

I agree. It's an urban legend. Even the conspirators best explanation barely makes sense in the context of a song written for children. It's a shame if it's now been banned for kids.

You could take any kids song or story and read more into it than is there if you chose to take it down adult theme lines (ie, "wake up Geoff, everybody's Wiggling" ). Themes the author never intended. Says more about those reading too much into it.

i just read the lyrics- & in 3.5 seconds, assessed that the song is about a dragon that lives in the mind of a young boys fantasy world!

Yes me too. Next, people will remember the Purple People Eater song from the late 50s, and try to find hidden meanings in that too.

I'm surprised that no-one has blamed the writers of Puff the Magic Dragon for the heroin/crystal meth problems!

Cassingles. Essential for Walkmans (another "what happened to?") in the 80's and 90's.

Same. I converted my Patsy Biscoe, Sesame St (and Chipmunk Punk!) albums to digital so my daughter can listen to them. It's a lovely version though not as good as Peter, Paul & Mary's live version which I loved as a kid and love now.
