Exactly ... how can one type of murder be illegal and the other lawful and sanctioned by the State?

I'm not a fan of Capital Punishment, however in the case of the bloke I referred to, he's using valuable oxygen, he pre-meditated murdering his own child, he tortured his ex partner via social media and the like whilst he was in the process of murdering his child, he stabbed the child repeatedly, watched her bleed to death, then dumped her body, all the while still texting etc.

He showed no remorse, was only interested in how many years he was going to be put away for.

He got 33. He'll be 57 when he can get parole. I hope he's locked away for life. Never to see the outside world again.

It's easy to denounce something when it hasn't happened to you.

No saying current laws are OK ... he should be locked up for life.

In the case of Martin Bryant, where he so obviously murdered so many people in cold blood, I've always thought that the police could have accidentally but on purpose shot him dead in the heat of the battle. Of course they didn't, the prick pleads insanity and suffers far, far less than his victims.

Isn't there some sort of conspiracy theory going around about Bryant though?

I guess there is about every large crime, but still...

You can't kill a man 35 times.

He's attempted suicide many times and has served much of his sentence in solitary confinement. I'd wager a guess that his quality of life is virtually non-existent and I'm sure he'd rather they'd 'accidently' shot him in the head.

I've never really understood this kind of argument.
To me, people are born with certain rights and responsibilities, including responsibilities to their fellow man. When they seriously breach these responsibilities, ie by infringing on the rights of others, surely they lose their rights.

Ok, I make one exception ... Capital punishment and Eugene McGee would make a nice combination.

Somewhat true ... we can keep him in a miserable existence for the rest of his life, murder the prick or let him do it for us.

The long perpetuated myth that vengeance provides closure.

A myth because you say so? I am a very vengeaful person and for me that is what I'd need. My life would be taken from me anyway and I know I'd feel much better, nothing could ever bring closure anyway

Just to clarify my position ... If anyone touches my wife and 3 daughters the lack of capital punishment will not save you ...

Then you take the killers place and live as a constant reminder to the rest of your family what has happened? Wouldn't you want to be there to support the family you care about? Sounds selfish to me to remove yourself from their lives just so you can feel good about what you have done.

Because Titus Andronicus says so.

What ZC says, by murdering the murderer you remove his/hers burden of guilt and wear it as your own.

Bet TA didn't live in this day and age where the legal system is a joke, protecting the guilty almost. We must rehabilitate them, FFS

Fact is, most prisoners are not incarcerated for life, most re-enter society. Dehumanise them (instead of rehabilitating them) and you make society less safe.
