There is nothing to stop people topping up their own superannuation rather than demanding more from their employer...
Once upon a time, IIRC, all superannuation deposits were fully tax deductible but still most decided to rely on getting the pension.
I was about to set up my own fund when the Hawke/Keating government created taxation problems in doing it to please the unions, so I took another direction.
My present fund was created under the Howard administration's catch up provisions.
One socialist idea I would support is a compulsory national superannuation scheme to replace the pension.
BUT, it would have to be not run by the government or the unions, or it would all get spent to buy votes and not be there when required.
Ideally, people could choose to self-manage, hire a private company like AMP, or, perhaps, accept an independent public trust perhaps if it seemed safe.
[I'd go self-managed as I have now.]
