I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

I used to get a minimum of 3 calls a day until I registered with the do not call register.
And the other night was the first one I've had since I can remember,
So it does work to a pretty good degree.

Anyone who's interested https://www.donotcall.gov.au/

And I haven't had any charities call either.

But yes, door knockers, that's a whole other story
Maybe we need a do not knock register too

O:)

 I just had a thought !!
I've moved house, new phone number, maybe I need to re-register?? #-o

A visible large dog helps.
I once opened the door while opening mail and still had in my left hand a wrought iron letter opener with a spade shaped blade and a handle that curved into a goat's head.
It was Jehovah's Witnesses. They never came back. All I said, when I saw their eyes pop open and realised the situation, was , "Ah we have our own religion."

tipper wrote:similar thing, yesterday we had a doorknocker. (edited for length)
them "are you interested in lowering your electricity bill"
me "yes"
them "well blah de blah"
me "well do you have a brochure so i can read it and discuss it with the missus when she gets home?"
them "no"
me "is there a website i can view the info later"
them "no, but we have a 10 day cooling off period so if we sign you up now you can talk about it and decide later"
me "goodbye (slams door)"

how can they ecpect people to do anything on the spot with nothing in writing and no way to verify their claims?? and she seemed very put out when i told her i wanted to think about it and decide later, also tried to make an appointment for when the missus was home so she could talk to us both! bloody doorknokers!

during the conversation do they tell you

'"we can offer you upto 5% off your electricity bill""

if so i had one guy from mumbai walk up the driveway, stuck his head over the fence and started dribbling very similar to what happened to you Tipper, anyway, with him telling us he could offer us 5% discount I asked him if he knew how much $$$$$$ that would be per cycle.

he couldnt answer, and i said well you know everything else about us so how much was our last bill etc.......

he trudged back up the driveway, made a phone call, he came back down and he apologised.

he tried telling us that Origin dont supply the electricity to the local area its actually another company - he named it but ive forgotten. I told him, look mate, we pay our money to Origin, whateva they do with that is upto them.....

One bloke caught me as I was heading out the door in a hurry somewhere once. He asked me whether it was okay if he could come back the following night. I said yes knowing full well I wouldn't be home.

Poor bastard probably made an extra trip for nothing.

I have been told however, that with the energy companies/phone companies - 'door to door' knocking is the most succesful way to get more/new customers.... more succesful than mail outs, more succesful than phone calls etc, etc...

soooo they're going to be knocking for some time yet I'd imagine !

Ahh, that is a good way of looking at it JAS.

Whenever they ask for Mr Choccies or Mrs Choccies I just say, hang on I'll go get them.... I'll put the phone on the bench and walk away..... then when I come back in the house 20 minutes later I laugh and wonder if they are still 'on hold' waiting for me !!

Other option is to inundate them with probing questions.... they hate it !!

I used the old "I'm sorry I'm eating, give me your number and I'll call you back" trick, that was just enough for them to hang up immediately, haven't got another call yet.

new topic.....

it ges up my nose when i fight with the missus in the morning, then in the afternoon when she comes home from work she's even more upset about it... even if it was pathetic!!!

then if you do something like housework (which gets done anyway) she tells (yes tells as if she knows what i'm thinkin) you that 'the only reason i'm doin it is because she's upset'

you just can't win!
I am not talking to you for 3 minutes because you punched me in the head and it hurt and that was not okay for you to do

The crap people put on their car - "Baby on board" signs, stickers with profanity on them and one I saw today - a sign that said, "All valuables have been removed from this vehicle". These are all stupid.

Mozzies buzzing around my head all night and keeping me awake. Then you wake up and spray the room and end up with Mortein taste in my mouth all night and then just as I'm almost asleep, another bastard buzzes into the bedroom to piss me off.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.
