Who's got a Solar Power System installed?

I tried to contact the company who installed my panels (Go Sunny Solar) but haven't got an answer via phone or email (I think they might not exist anymore). I did a battery quote on the Origin website/over the phone and they give 3 partner companies that will contact me for a battery quote. I've also asked for a quote from Sunboost and Tindo Solar.

Still deciding if a battery is worth it though but reading through all this sounds like it will be

Don’t think you can claim capital costs … legally

Running costs of a home office as a percentage of time at home and of the house … sure.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Recently put in a 10KW Sonnen battery linked to my 28 Solar panels put in back in 2016.
98% independent so far, but of course it is summer.

Interestingly two city based sellers quoted me $14K for the battery, but a local firm in the hills did it for $10K
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

Bump.

Planning to upgrade our rooftop solar with a battery. Anyone have recent experience with adding a battery to an existing system? Companies recommended, companies to avoid? Capacity for a house with 4 adults? Etc?

Something I’ll have to look into after the State govt 44c FIT ends on 30/6/2028.

We added a Tesla 13kWh to our existing system just over 12 months ago. Was expensive compared to some other brands but have no regrets (apart from lining the pockets of Elon). Goliath Solar did both our battery and panels. Again maybe not the cheapest but easy to deal with and good communication and a decent job.

And fair enough too, we bought our battery before he went full loopy.

Edit, Dedja with reference to your power blackout in the weather thread, our battery kicks in within a second and runs everything but the air-conditioning and the pool stuff. Also will charge itself from the grid in response BOM weather warnings. Have not been without power since the battery was installed.

Yeah, understand all that.

The issue I have is that because I’m on the State govt 44c FIT until 30/6/2028, I’m the opposite to most people these days as it’s better for me to export as my FIT is greater than usage cost. Tariffs, TOU plans and regulatory policy are now geared towards people using as much solar during the day, especially the so called ‘solar sponge’ period’ where solar feed in to the grid is at its highest. I can’t play that game until my 44c FIT expires, so is also why I stay on a single tariff as TOU would kill me. Plus if I make any changes to my panels or install a battery, I instantly lose the govt FIT.

Once the 44c FIT expires, then it makes perfect sense to get a battery, including covering blackouts.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

At exactly the wrong time of year our inverter has shat itself and currently arranging a replacement, under warranty I believe but yet to be confirmed.

Might take the opportunity to look to get a quote on another battery to increase our storage, seems the way forward these days with limited FIT available
