It's not illegal for your cat to be outside or wander off your property, but it is irresponsible, selfish and inconsiderate to allow it. If bayman's cat, and the cat it was scruffing with had been controlled, then the cat would still be here.
The woman who complained is well within her rights to report it. It must have been a bad enough injury to be reported and then taken away and put down.
The sooner cats are controlled the same as dogs the better. Better for the cat, the wildlife it kills and the neighbors of cat owners. Too many people buy a cat, dump it outside, and feed it once a day, and are oblivious to what it does the rest of the 23 hours and 55 minutes.
My two dont really wander outside the confines of the house boundaries nowdays which is good, however unfortunately we have neighbours who are irresponsible and allow their 5 cats out at all hours and they wander into MY yard, which once resulted in my cat having surgery to a nasty fight.
Yes, i agree with cats being registered and not being allowed out at night.
It probably would have avoided the predicament that Bayman is in at the moment too..
Mind you, if your cat was wearing a collar with your contact number or if it was microchipped, the RSPCA couldnt have put your cat down without first contacting you anyway. So thats why I reckon something is fishy...
