The media - good or bad?

I don't think it is good media reporting to wake up this morning and discover the story du jour seems to be about criticism of Premier Rann picking a new front bench without a certain percentage of chicks in the group. Shouldn't he be allowed to pick who he wants? Is it really NEWS if the front bench is all or mostly blokes?

Well we know its not based on merit because of the role played by party hacks. Foley has proven to be a poor minister, so what do they do..give him just as big a workload.

oh yeah but then there's there's the upside. Foley will cop a lot ot attention from the media and as soon as he screws up it be a headline. Editors all over Adelaide would be salivating right now

The thing I have picked up on here is that bugger all country folk have slipped in with support or criticism for their local newspapers and/or radio and tv stations.
I wrote on another topic today that my office gets in a wide selection of regional newspapers that we use as research tools. Some of the sports reporting and reporting of local council comings and goings have over time made household names of footballers, cricketers, lawn bowlers and assorted councillors and other sundry community people.
This is curious.

The Hills Courier is top rate - very factual, few mistakes and picks up on most issues going around. Also has a lively letters section.

A very good country paper. One to aspire to be like.
A good editor too.
One would think it would be a shoe in to win its category in the SA Country Press awards later this month.

Fortunate enough to work in their Sports department for some time. Their Sports department, on its own, has a very impressive alumni of journalists that have gone on to bigger and better things. Ian Shuttleworth, Zac Milbank and Corey Norris all got their starts there.
