Sorry to hear about Jemma Wedgie, best wishes to you all.

The Sleeping Giant wrote:I've got 2 pugs. Little monsters, don't recommend them to anyone. The girl is dumb as, will eat anything and has been to the vet a few times because of it,

I have to agree with that, we've got a female Pug and regularly "puppy sit" her brother (belongs to my sister inlaw), only difference, the male is as dumb as dog shit and the female is too clever for it's own good.

Since this thread was started we lost our Staffie at 14 and the Tom Cat at 21, our Pug lived with the okd Staffie for about 12 months before she passed away at 14, we now have a 2 1/2 year old Staffie, would still recommend a Staffie (particularly female) to any one, especially if you have kids.

I wouldn't mind a staffie. Friendly dogs.

Sorry to hear wedgie, its a terrible thing to have to go through..

The only "good side" for lack of a better term, is when you know what's going to happen. We had 2 boxers, the boy we had got scratched by a cat, got infected and was gone within a week, that tore me apart big time and still got emotional a fair while after when thinking about it.

Our girl was 10, had a lump in her boobs. As we knew she was nearing the end, we got more time with her, and in a way prepared ourselves for the inevitable, still hurts like **** when u actually have to go to the vets, but u end up being able to sense when its time..

Here's a pic of her watching me at the pc a few minutes ago, I've put one of my jumpers on her to keep her warm.
It's breaking my heart.

Dumb question but one my son asked me too, what do most people do with the bodies when dogs pass away?
We had a puppy once before we buried in the back yard but I'm in two minds as to if I want to do this again.
Is it best just to see her go to sleep at the vets and say goodbye and leave her or take her home and bury her?
Any other options?
Any input appreciated as not thinking real straight at the moment.

Hey Wedgie,

So sorry to hear about your dog mate, thoughts are with you.

I know it is slightly different but when my wife's cat was hit by a car and passed on, we got her cremated (the cat) and have her ashes in a nice ceramic urn.

When the time comes mate, the best bet would be to speak to the vet about the options there.

I've been told the best thing is to go in with the vet. There is no stress, it's all nice and peaceful. Give her a pat until she is sleeping.

This is what happened with our girl.

We went to the vet (they knew we were coming in), they took her out the back and put in an iv line. While they did this we picked out the urn we wanted her in after she was cremated. When she had that in they brought her into the consult room. The vet explained what was going to happen. They overdose them on anesthetic and they go to sleep very fast and quietly. We got to spend as much time as we wanted with her in the room.

It comes down to personal choice with burial, cremation or if you don't want anything to do with her after. Same as if you want to be in there as she goes, I didn't let miss 7yo come in as I thought she was too young.

We did that too.

We then got him cremated and he sits in a nice wooden box in our lounge room on a bookshelf.

That always crosses your mind, but in a way its the same with any cremation I guess.

We have both our dogs in urns at home, they are very much family, and this way if we move they come too.
