Our stupid out dated trading hours for retail stores on public holidays.
No wonder the other States take the piss out of us.

I understand why we still have them but it’s time for change, surely!

personally, i completely disagree.

people only have a certain amount of money to spend. shops being open longer isnt magically going to give everyone more disposable income.

it would start with allowing longer trading, then the push would come for getting rid of weekend and sunday loadings for the staff working those days, and it would end with retail workers being basically slaves. no breaks, no benefits, only hours upon hours of retail hell.

i may be biased from my years working retail

I understand retail and agree with what you are saying.
But it is going to happen eventually to come in line with the other states so let’s just make it happen now.

Plus I wanted meat for a bbq for Monday lunch but couldn’t get it anywhere.

And for the previous 109 days prior to that, in fact.

I'm very happy with the status quo - gives workers and small business owners about a dozen days off every year. A small yet deserved break.

Why is Adelaide metro so special when it comes to shopping hours

Should implement the country shopping hours regime

Go up the road to Balhannah on a Sunday or Public Holiday and these are the hours:

Sun 07:30 AM - 09:00 PM

Public Holidays: 07:30 AM - 09:00 PM

Serious question: a person goes to Uni during the week and works weekends at a pub or shop
Do they get Saturday, Sunday & Public Holiday loading?

It’s where I went to get my meat.
Overpriced and crap meat.

Scrap the penalty rates and just open up like every other state in Australia.

It’s what I used to like about going to the Clare races at Easter.
Woolies was always open and especially on race day to load up on food to take in for the day.

Yeah its real handy.

Only critism is that due to the lack of population they kind of have to hire anyone that applies as the population isn't big enough to keep up with tourism demand. This means the quality of staff at times is a bit down and the service can be a bit slow by the time they finish speaking to old mate 80 year old John Smith who wants to remind everyone his father once owned this bloke of land

The positive is most staff are hired there on a permanent basis so good hours getting around and money to be earnt.
