thoughts are with you TDK :-(

Thanks MT79. Just thinking to when I was at the beach today going for a swim and it reminded of when I'd take Monty down there on a Sunday and I'd be in the water for some recovery after playing footy and he would sit on the shore and watch me in the distance, he was scared of water and would never come in with me but wouldn't move an inch until I came out of the water, even if another dog would come up to him or people would walk past he'd still stay there making sure I was safe.

I don't cry much when the time comes for people I know & love to move on but I balled my eyes out each time we lost one of our dogs. Thoughts are with you mate. F*** I'm tearing up now.

Thoughts are with you, TDK.

I remember losing my first dog on christmas eve in 2000. 14 years on and I still miss the bugger.

They truly are your best mate.

Mine too.

Over the last 30 years I've had 5 dogs die suddenly or have to be put down, and I've shed a tear or two each time:
One got Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) age 10.
One had an arterio-venous malformation (blood vessel weakness) rupture into the spine and cause paralysis and loss of bowel and bladder control, at age 5.
One had an anaphylactic reaction to vaccination boosters at 11 years old.
One couldn't adapt to moving from the country to a city environment, and was too old to hand on to some one else.
One developed Myocarditis and leaky heart valves aged 10.

To some extent this is a result of owning large breeds that tend to die young.
Three were Irish Wolfhounds.
The one that had the anaphylactic shock was a Scottish Deerhound.
The one that couldn't adapt was a cross-breed working dog - a mix or Border Collie, Cattle Dog, and Kelpie, with a dash of Bull Terrier.

Looks horribly gaunt, especially after they show past footage of him.
I hope channel 9 show some class & respect and not turn Richie's ailing health into some sort of publicity stunt.

Agreed, and making it some sort of goal or aim to be back in the box for the News Years Test should be the last thing C9 or Richie are thinking about.

At 84, battling skin cancer after smashing his spine and sternum in a car accident, Rich should be taking it real slow.

I agree but at the same time i dont.

Everyone loves Richie - and if he can get the slip slop slap message across by using his own story then good on him. I doubt he would've done it solely on channel 9's insistence.

Terrible news - no one should ever die playing the sport they love.

Was his dad/Uncle also an Australian cricketer?

It is incredibly sad....its like the John McCarthy incident all over again.

I dont think Phil was related to any past Australian cricketers - if he was it wasnt really publicised.

Not sure this can be compared to the John McCarthy incident.

Im not going to get into a debate about the individual cicumstances of both matters because thats not particularly apprppriate, but in terms of the sadness and sense of tragedy in losing someone from a favourite sporting team, a comparison can be made as to how it affects the individual.

I think GWW is saying that the impact the incident has had on people who have never met the guy is similar in many ways.

The family that died yesterday at Millicent were next door neighbours of good family friends of ours.

Bloody horrible.

Seems as though they were innocent passers by who got entangled in a collision that they were simple passing by.
