still on petrol, remember when self-serve petrol was cheaper than an attendant?
remember when an attendant checked your oil and tyres while he/she filled up?
minimum chips was a massive 40 cents?

Red Hen trains.

Paper bus tickets, that the conductor used to punch, or the bus driver would slip into a stamping machine.

Paper tickets? Meh. I can remember the cardboard tickets which had to have a hole punched through them.

Who remembers those sad little one-line platitudes which used to be printed on the paper tickets? I once had a girlfriend who would religiously read the proverbs as soon as she bought the ticket, and spend the next ten minutes meditating on the inner meanings thereof... I'm glad I got out of that relationship

Were they the ones with each day of the year on them, and a slightly minty smell to a part of them? A lot of mates used to have them, I was never lucky enough :-(.

Did used to catch the old STA "School Bus" though - either the "S" or the "W" (grew up in Western Suburbs). This was around the time the Grange Railway Station used to be on the other side of Military Road to where it is now.

Psuedo - I remember those mottos like its yesterday. Some of them just used to leave me bewildered at that age though - didn't understand them all!!

On less pleasant memories: the yearly KP-24 blitzes as head lice made its annual pilgrimage through schools. Yuck .Lucky enough to avoid them fortunately!

Learning to swim at the old Henley Pool.

Round 50c pieces !

Had a customer pay me yesterday some dollar value & 20c.

She paid correct money or so I thought, until I went to put it in the
float and BINGO, a round 50c coin !!

I swapped it over for a normal one !!

:D

Talking 50c pieces... my son came home with a 'captain cook' 50c piece from the canteen yesterday.... he and his friends had been discussing this 'strange' coin all afternoon... they thought it was fake.... I had to assure him it was actually the real deal

'on this day'

a 4 or 5 minute program at the end of the nights television (yes folks tv used to stop around midnight) which had snippets of australian news from yesteryear, which was then followed by the national anthem & either a blank screen or test pattern, until 'norMAL services' re started the next morning
