If you HOF,were to ask all users in this forum " Are you satisfied with the amount of time and energy you put into your secondary education?" I think you will find, with hindsight, many would say no.

I know for one if I had my time again I would have left secondary school with a much better result.

exactly, we had to watch a video, and all they did on it was talk about different camera angles to try and figure out if it was fake or not.

I'm amazed the conspiracy theory is given any credence at all. I was around and watched the action on TV at the time.
The same people won't believe it again, presumably, when the Yanks, Russians, and now Indians, start squabbling over who owns how much of the He3 in a few years. I assume they'll decide the 3 of them are in a conspiracy to convince us man has ever been to the moon...

Well if you saw it on the TV, it must be real

For the record: I just love a good conspiracy theory

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that TV was what convinced me. :D
I met a colleague from Boston who was working with NASA back then, and on into the 1970s on the joint Russian/American satllite being planned for the L5 stable location, trailing the moon by 60 degrees.
He came to Adelaide as a guest speaker a few times and I talked to him over dinner about the non-secret stuff because I'm interested in the science.

Looks like the last few pages of this thread are proof that we've all turned into our parents  Agree with pretty much everything that's been said...and I think HOF and Michael's willingness to listen and comment intelligently show how useful an education is.

Don't worry HOF most of us felt the same as you do when we were your age.

I do wish I'd been able to do a lot better in secondary school...partly my own fault as I'd already been accepted for the RAF before my exams so didn't give a stuff and partly other domestic carp. But my schooling was useful in my career...not just lists of facts and figures but the ability to analyse a mass of information and extract what I needed, all the essay writing helped when I had to write up annual reports on staff and compile job descriptions etc and trust me there is heaps and heaps of maths in a war

I know it's easier said than done but learn now while you don't have to pay for it. I started doing an Open Uni course a few years ago but stopped because it just got ridiculously expensive.

Good luck to you both with your exams...don't underestimate yourselves...I reckon most on here have been impressed by your contributions.

Regards
JAS

I don't have exams yet, maybe next year I think, Michael is year 12 and i am only year 10.

do people actually learn anything at school that they use in real life

no we don't

In Maths we are learning crap like, if you swing a golf club back 90 degrees as you hit the ball, how far does the ball travel and at what angle? so we have to do a sum like xytr + aqyjt - 90 etc(and this sum goes on for ages!)...... When am I going to go to a Golf Course and do that? its ridiculous and thats what we learn for most of the year, stupid sums that have no meaning to life!

In English we are writing poems! WTF! when am i going to be a fricken poet!

In Science we are figuring out if America did or didn't land on the moon, I couldn't give a stuff who landed on the moon 50 years ago!

In Media we just sit there and watch TV and movies most lessons (i ain't complaining) but we aren't learning anything there!

In PE we are currently playing Golf, and are going to the Driving Range Friday, maybe i should use my Maths work to help me with my game.

And to add to all this, no one actually does this work properly, we just sit there most lessons and listen to the teachers dribbling sh1t. They have no idea.......

I suppose they should teach you Real Life Skills like how to hotwire a Commodore and how to get the right inflection on phrases like "would you like cheese on that burger sir" ?
