A lot were up on Saturday before the election date had being formally announced
I'm not sure if anyone can confirm this but I heard that the law states that they actually have to wait 7 days after the announcement before defacing our stobie poles with their posters.
It's only until 6pm of the day the paperwork is handed to the Governor General.
The major candidates were a full 24 hours early.
By my thinking this (early posters etc) has been happening for the last few elections. I see it as one of the advantages of being in government, that in some small way the government of the day, can get the jump....both sides probably guilty of this offence. In the grand scheme of things.... an 8 week "election campaign" that has endured a bloody 8 week build up.... Posters up a few hours early makes good as bugger all difference, other than being visual litter IMO.
