I don't understand what drives people to behave like this.

Apparently the Aldi @ Marion was stormed a couple of weeks ago where every patron was stopped and checked to see if they had "checked in", the store allegedly copped a $5K fine and those that hadn't checked in copped a $1K fine each.

This info was passed on by the bean counter at my mum's work.

Yep, same thing happened up at the Belair Hotel.
Coppers nabbed 30 odd customers for not checking in - all got fined.

And if any of them are smart enough to take it to court it will be thrown out.
Its not a law to sign in, its a breach of the privacy act to expect people to sign in. It is only compulsory for a place of business to have the QR code, you dont have to use it, simple.
And wedgie and his place of employment could be sued for discrimination if what he has described is true.
Still have not signed in anywhere. Have been asked a few times if ive signed in and i just say na, im good thanks, nobody has argued.
More people need to stand up to this bullshit tyranny.

SA GOVERNMENT - DECLARATIONS AND DIRECTIONS
Both the Australian Government and South Australian Government have enacted their emergency powers in order to respond to COVID-19 . This means that the government may utilize its powers in specific circumstances to create policies, change laws, and enact procedures to manage the emergency. In some circumstances this may mean changing laws, or putting lawful directions in place that the public must adhere to. This includes formal directions to undertake mandatory self-quarantine when directed to do so.

Failure to comply with direction
People who fail to comply with a requirement or direction of the State Co-Ordinator (or an authorised officer) during a declared major emergency, incident or disaster under the Emergency Management Act 2004 (SA) may be charged with an offence.

Maximum Penalty:

If the offender is a natural person - $20,000 or imprisonment for 2 years
If the offender is a body corporate - $75,000
Expiation (fine): $1,000

[Emergency Management Act 2004 (SA) s 28(1)]

You don't have to check in on a QR code.
It is a direction that your details have to be recorded in some manner, if not by QR ciode then manually.
The direction is legislation, ie law.

If anyone wants to come to my pub and test me and the law out, go for it, at request i will pm my hotel, which part of it I'll be working in and my roster times. I look forward to a trip to court when I'm being sued, will be a nice little money earner for me as I'll counter sue for my inconvenience and legal expenses and clean up as its extremely clean cut.

Exactly, it is a breach of the Priavcy act to enforce anybody to give their personal details. Even the police dont have the power to ask for your phone number but youre telling me some 15yr old at the local IGA or some middle aged man that pours beers does? Turn it up.

What Wedgie has posted will not stand up in court but its enough to scare the masses into complying. They are directions not laws, why do you think they dont call them laws?

Seems to me wedgie is on a power trip at his place of work, shouldve been a policeman

Go on then champ, test me out.
Come to my pub, refuse to sign in and then sue me, lets see how you go.

If you don't then you're obviously just talking waffle from behind your computer screen.

Come on mate, I've got the balls to test the legislation out, have you?

And LOL that I'm on a power trip because I'm enacting the law and avoiding my employer, myself and my customers being fined.
Someone's on a trip and it ain't me.

Its not your job to enforce what you think is a law, youre a covid marshall ffs, you did 5 minutes of online training. Yours and your employers only responsibility to the directions is to have a QR code available for patrons to scan if they wish or alternatively a paper sign in, its not your job to enforce any of it.
May i ask how you would know if someone writes down a false name and phone number?
Do you have signs saying you will be refused service if you dont comply?

Prove your point mate or STFU as if you don't we all know that even you yourself know you're spinning shit.
Friday afternoon or Sunday or Monday anytime will suit me, only 10 minutes out of town, a small distance to go to prove you actually believe what you waffle. You'll be able to sue for the travel on top of everything else you'll be suing me and a large business for.
Easy money unless you're talking crap.

Wait a sec, you're saying you've not signed in at all, and nobody's argued or forced you to do it, but at the same time it amounts to tyranny?

Doesn't sound very tyrannical.

In fact being able to ignore the law, more or less without sanction, would be the opposite of tyranny would it not?

I don’t know about any legal aspects but I do know of a couple of people who write fake names and phone numbers at every premises they visit.

I will prefix by saying I sign in everywhere I go.

What I do find funny though is there are certain places and my local pub is one where they will enforce everyone to sign which im fine with. Do have to laugh though when they then let the local drunk get absolutely plastered to the point they need a hand to be put in a taxi....

Just picking and choosing which 'laws' 'direction' whatever you want to call it that they chose to enforce.
