Read yesterday that even with the spill gates fully open, the water level of Wivenhoe dam was within 90 cm of triggering an emergency release valve that would have released enough water to raise the river level another metre.

Insurance companies have already started telling people they wont be covered, telling them it was the wrong type of flood, or the water came from the ground instead of the sky or whatever they can say to get out of paying anyone. Suncorp are the only ones who are paying out everyone.

A few dodgy definitions of "flood" being bandied by insurance co's. IMHO: Flood = water through house.

However those living in flood prone regions also need pay a premium to gain flood insurance. They then can make a decision - live in the flood zone, but pay 10 - 50% extra on insurance, or save this coin by living in non-flood areas.

On Today Tonight there was a pensioner who did have 'flood insurance' and home and contents etc thought he was fully covered and was insured for $250,000 - however the fine print and the actual amount entitled to under the 'flood' insurance was only $15,000.

Shifting the limelight over the Vic floods, the Wimmera river in Horsham is about to peak and I have plenty of mates who will potentially be effected. A lady I used to play bingo with lives right on the river and I haven't been able to contact her so Im thinking she might have evacuated...
Don't play games with a girl who can play 'em better...

Hate to say it, but that is some really serious rain too. Hope it doesn't cause too much trouble.

Any chance he could be fishing for PTSD? Not meant to sound harsh, as I have alot of respect for the volunteers helping in the clean up.

Reports out saying people are being charged $10 dollars for a loaf of bread here in South east Queensland and also $15 dollars for 3 litres of milk.

Also they are saying we were just 90cms away from the wivenhoe dam bursting its banks and cause major issues for brisbane

Its ironic
19/1/1976
It was meant to be disaster day in Adelaide
Adelaide Clairvoyant John Nash predicted a tidal wave and the flooding of Adelaide seaside suburbs
It didnt happen

Premier Donny Dunstan and company were at Glenleg Beach on the morning of 19/1/76 having a chicken and champagne breakfast

However the predictions were enough to make some people leave the state and the seaside areas
