I tried it once.
The next time I moved I just dumped stuff, or gave it to the Salvos, rather than let a second hand store have the satisfaction of making a large profit on the pittance they offered.

Yeah I understand what your saying. It's the same as when you have a garage sale and you have an item of clothing with the tag on and some jewbag says will you take 10 cents. "Only if i can stick it in your ass." If you actually want it surely you would pay one friggin dollar.

One thing I have liked about Gumtree is anyone who has come has been in and out within 3minutes without any crap. You can also organise the pick up to suit you. The drawback has been I haven't got rid of any of the big stuff. That will end up going to the Salvos I assume.

Yes. At my one garage sale I had $10 on a security screen door and some guy offered me $5.
I'd had enough by then so I looked him in the eye and said, "Frankly, I'd sooner chuck it in the skip!"
He gave me the $10.

Been there, I am so anti the garage sale becsuse of the aforementioned douche bags.

Anyway I have now sold 7 of the ten items and. 3 I didn't list so it's time to chuck on another ten. They mainly consist of pistol bags, gun safes and cabinets along with ex military stuff (all legal) so I imagine I will now encounter a whole new kind of special person

I've got a collection of swords, a nice recurve hunting bow, and a battleaxe - I guess that makes me yet another kind of special person. ;)

Any suggestions for a 3 year old washing machine Westinghouse. Being a bigger item and being in my house im not that keen to have strangers walking through the actual home.

I am yet to try E-bay. Is it true if they win the bid they have to buy it?

I thought they had to pay. Like I said I have never used it but I would have thought they would get banned, suspended or something. I probably need to do a bit of research. That and spruiking my items for moderators to buy ;) was the main reason I started this thread. To learn about the ins and outs and do's and don'ts.

Put ten items up last night and have 3 guys all coming at the same time after work for various items. Hopefully an unparalleled bidding war breaks out :)

You can set it up where the buyer pays immediately however that is for buy it now auctions so you can't get a bidding war going which is really what you want. If someone wins an auction and doesn't pay then they get an unpaid item strike, I don't think there is a limit on these unfortunately. Ebay is much more about protecting the buyer not the seller.

4 outdoor setting tables
3 Indoor Tv cabinets
3 fold out lounges
2 lawn mowers
4 filing cabinets
3 fridges
4 cupboards
1 full 4 seater lounge
Tools, so many tools eg. 10 drills
6 ladders ( apparently the old man liked ladders)
2 microwaves
3 tv s
3 stereos
Basically we have doubled up on most household items, appliances and things you find around the home.

What have people found the most effective way to sell items like the above without to much stuffing around whilst avoiding interactions with troglodytes and time wasters. I have never used E-bay or gumtree so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Take it all down to Mason Gray Strange on Torrens Road.
Auction Rooms.
They take 20% I think but it's all gone at once.
I'd like to see the tools though.
PM me regarding that if you want.
Need a new drill and bits.

An just for the benefit of those reading who may think like some of my customers "NO I do not have guns for sale on Gum tree and I will not sell you one under the counter"

I bought my Winchester lever action 22 magnum that I had to part with reluctantly in 1996, when I sold my farm, from a Hells Angel I knew, privately.
He assured me it was "one of the registered ones", and that proved to be correct. And he sent a mate around to set the telescopic sights accurately for me.
