I keep one of those under the bed and a Samurai sword in the walk-in robe.

To any police officer reading this post, please note it is just a decorative style, and does not reflect any intent to use one on any future intruder. There is also a claymore lying around in the study and an antique Gurkha sword on the sewing machine waiting for me to repair its decorative, shoulder hanging, scabbard. The battle axe is in another wardrobe.

(This is all just one of my hobbies, left over from my interest in Fencing at Uni.)

Foil and Epee mainly, but I've had experience with post and rail, and with general farm fencing, too.
Breeding goats gets you up to date with star droppers, sheep and lamb mesh, and with the generous application of barbed wire top and bottom to stop the little b's escaping. (You even have to string it up the strainer posts to keep goats in.)

I think the police would look at the situation. If the kids on the breakwater, with a tacklebox and rod, he should be fine. If he's walking down Salisbury Hwy with the same knife on him, they'd probably charge him.

What if he's walking to the bus stop on Salisbury hwy with the intention of going to the breakwater and carrying a tackle box. What would happen then?

Simple solution, if you're 15 and intend on stabbing someone, make sure you are carrying a tacklebox and a rod, also make sure you have enough money to purchase a train ticket.

And then shoot you with bullets out of their arses.

Of course, the kitchen draw at home usually has knives in it, so I'm not sure what the point of the law really is.

The type of people who carry a knife with intent, I would doubt they obtain them at the nearest kitchenware outlet.

they actually do Booney. not that long ago a youth was stabbed to death in adelaide, by another who had just walked into a shop and bought the knife from a store. it wasnt a "switchblade" or "fighting knife", just an ordinary kitchen style knife (http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010 ... e=adelaide) it was 5 years ago now, i didnt realise it had been that long.

the majority of knife crime is not people using "scary" knives. customs have recently changed their criteria for allowing the importation of knives. basically now the only knives that will be let in are fixed blade knives, or folding knives that cant be opened with one hand,(not flick knives or any sort of spring assisted opening, they have been banned for quite some time, i mean ones that can be manually opened with one hand) yet they are rarely, if ever used in knife crimes.

someone intent on stabbing another person is not going to spend big dollars on something that they will use once and get confiscated when the police show up. they will grab a kitchen knife from the drawer full at home, or buy a cheap $5 knife from a store on their way there.

sure, this new law will stop them buying one at the time, but it will in no way stop an underage person getting hold of a knife. i think it is just more political bs, be seen to be soing something without actually fixing the problem. this wont cost the government anything to enact, and they can stand on their soapbox and proclaim they are "fixing" things. unfortunately all to common lately...

from my understanding, if you are in or near a licenced venue, you can be. but it would come down to the police officers discretion i would think, and if he or she was having a bad day or not. according to the lawmakers there is no reason to carry a knife at all anymore.....
