The Mayans couldn't even predict the end of their own civilisation!

The Mayans forgot to take into account leap years... So technically it should have already happened...

The eclipse is intersting, but the media/public interest seems a little over the top.

Yes, I think about ol' Proxima centauri sometimes too. I mean how's he going over there? Our nearest neighbor and all, do you think he complains about the noise ?

Then again WE font know what caused the end of their civilization either.
But they did predict the arrival of "white skinned Gods" carrying "fire sticks" which can kill at a distance, who would decimate the native population, right down to the year the Spanish arrived.
Freaky stuff.

I wasn't trying to put shit on them (I'm one of the few that loves Apocalypto).

That's alright, I just love a good story and your post made me think of one.
On the other hand, I saw that on a documentary years ago, and just before I searched for some verifying info on the net, only to discover that just about every site with any credibility (ie. National Geographic, scientific sites etc.) all claim there's no prediction, just that's when the calendar ends, everything that's been written otherwise is exaggeration, or fabrication to make money.
I'll let you know on the 22nd which ones were correct. ;)
