Today is the day we eat lamb, drink beer, go to the beach, wear the flag on our body.

And be proud to be a damn Aussie.

Aussie Aussie Aussie!

A good choice in this instance, with his outstanding work overseas in charitable works not as well known here in Australia.

That said, outside of this instance, the notion that entertainers or sportspeople should be Australian Of The Year is plain ridiculous IMHO. Their achievements are worthy, but they already receive more than enough accolades/awards/recognition for their work and are generally VERY well remunerated for their work also - unlike many potential winners, who rely on government funding, for example, to undertake work that will ultimately have far more benefit to our lives than a gritty performance in an indie flick, or a few centuries against lesser performing countries.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...

Australian of the year is just another wanky award. At least it wasn't given to Cate Blanchett.

Anyway, I'm off to a BBQ in my car with 6 Aussie flags flying, to binge drink bundy, watch the cricket, swear like a trooper, and appreciate the fact I wasn't born in some other shite hole of a country.
