Doesn't 'therisingblues' live over there??? Hope he and his family are nowhere near any of this.

Theri was the first person I thought of, the footage I've seen is just terrible, I hope we hear from him soon :(

On the lighter side (if you can call it that I guess), in one of the news reports, they had just shown the first lot of youtube clips and after the clip, the announcer said something to the effect of "I'm surprised that even through such a powerful earthquake, people didn't think of their lives, they instead got out their cameras and took this amazing footage"

and I said to my mate " whaddya mean he's surprised, they're Japanese!" ;)

Yes - second person I thought of - first person my cousin and his family - but I can't remember where abouts they live.

Hope they are all safe.

Heard it on the news before we left home to go out tonight - but I had no idea how bad it was till we returned home :(

Thanks JAS - I'm sure my uncle would know if they are safe or not - and I haven't heard anything from anyone - so hopefully no news is good news.

Yes, that was also made into a bumper sticker, too. I've heard of that quote before, but didn't know it was Schultz who penned it.

I'll happily stand corrected but according to this it was him...

well thats what i meant, the tsunami?

there is some guy who rings up the radio claiming the animals - whales, sharks dolphins etc alert him to when earthquakes are going to happen as they flee the immediate area

he was on the other night and made no mention about this!!!!!

somehow i dont think his system worked unless the area the earthquake was building up in is an isolated area

Was able to get hold of my aunty and cousin via facebook.
All are well - they are quite away from the earthquake 'zone'.

So thank god for facebook !

Thoughts are with other people though who find themselves wondering about family and friends in the area.
